Theft at the Spot in Boulder

My wife went for a quick bouldering session over lunch at the Spot in Boulder yesterday (Dec 6th). She tossed her pack into a locker in the women's bathroom. Nothing much in there but a single credit card and car keys but no lock on the locker. So you guessed it, credit card gone after the sub 1 hour session. Not unexpected and obviously the lesson is lock your shit up not everyone is nice. Cancelling a credit card is easy these days, lesson learned end of story right? That’s where it gets interesting…

She went out to her car afterwards and sunglasses were missing. The car was definitely locked when she went in and sitting right in front of the entry. Looking around more the sunglasses case where she stashes her wedding ring was gone as well which is a huge bummer. It’s just a simple gold ring, no diamonds or anything but was custom made for her with small pieces of rocks from our favorite climbing areas hidden inside a cavity in the ring. And to add insult to injury they decided to climb through the car (a wagon) to get to the trunk and steal a bag of old jeans we were going donate to Goodwill (score!!!). Interestingly enough when they stepped through the middle seat they left a damn good footprint behind (the hearts in the heel tread seem unique):

Police guess that they likely just unlocked the car from the locker room and then went out to find which it was. This is more of a PSA than anything but if you’re around Boulder and see a female rocking Costa Del Mar Zane sunglasses, a gold ring, old jeans good for painting, shoes with a tread pattern like the one above that goes to the SPOT to boulder shoot me a PM or if you can ID the shoes (google is failing me). We only want the ring back since it has a lot of sentimental value (no questions asked).

Here’s the ring (note the small area on the inside at the bottom, that’s the cavity that holds the rocks):

Maybe the Spot has some video footage?

Wouldn’t take long to figure out if that’s the case.

They should also know everyone who was in the gym at that time!  Has to be a female if the locker was in the women’s room..  How many women were in the gym at that time...

Totally sucks, sorry man!

Spot doesn't have video nor do the businesses in the area (already asked). They do know who checked in and since it was lunch time not a lot of people there.

Also be good to see who left the Spot around the time your wife arrived...

Seems like a crime opportunity.  The perpetrator could have been leaving, saw your wife in the locker room, and saw that she was just getting started. (Likely not coming back into the locker room for awhile.  Then figured they had time.)

Seems pretty arrogant to do it - risk getting caught easily, unless they saw she was just getting started.

If it was someone climbing on a day pass they might have given a false name on their waiver. And paid cash.

Can you determine what size the shoe is?

Shoe size correlates pretty well with height--if it's "average" size then maybe it's not of much help, but if it's very small or large that may give a clue.

Perhaps but you'd still need a group of 'suspects' to cross reference after which isn't likely to happen.

So if you can believe it know what boots those are! I happened to be cleaning out some old stuff and came across a pair of my girlfriends boots. Same tread!

It's a company called muk luks.

Hopefully this helps.

So the obvious question is: Where was Kurt's girlfriend on Dec. 6th....the plot thickens

I'm sure she got her moneys worth coming all the way from Pennsylvania to rob a car in a Boulder parking lot.

Seems like the most logical thing to me. :)

I go to the spot frequently over lunch time. If I happen to see a shady person with those garish boots what is the protocol?

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
