Canadian Rockies air quality?

We are planning a climbing trip around Banff/Lake Louise and Rogers Pass in early August. What is the situation with respect to air quality in those areas due to the forest fires in Kootenays and other British Columbia areas? Even Calgary looked covered in a layer of smog due to the wind pushing the particles emanating from those fires. Any input/comments are appreciated. Thanks

It's been fine in the Bow Valley for the past few days. Could turn into the apocalypse tomorrow though. I don't think they're winning too much in BC.

Not sure if this smoke map is accurate. I only recently found it.

Thanks Beean, could you please provide an update? What happened two days ago that could lead too an apocalypse?

The Verdant creek fire just flared up again. Pretty smokey in Canmore now but you can still do stuff outside. I think north of Banff is smoke free right meow but I haven't been up there.

Lake Louise and Banff both have a variety of webcams you could look at for an idea of things.

Tough to forecast how things are going to shape up in BC. Was up in the Bugs a week ago - when we drove in the whole valley was covered in smoke as far South as Radium. But when we drove up into the mountains it was pretty clear. After a day or two, the air cleared out completely due to shifting weather and winds. No way to really predict how things will look moving forward, just gotta cross your fingers for favourable winds and some rain leading up to your trip!

Thanks everyone for your help. Thought it started to subside but looks like it took an unexpected turn today. Guess we can only hope for the best.

Kevin: congrats on your proposal. You sure picked an epic spot!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
