Plus, my wish list involved 2-3 black totems. Let's go Trango! It's Christmas in July!

In terms of being able to find them, no they don't

I've been using the new Vergo and like it a lot, especially for belaying up a second where it feeds like a dream. Anyone who's used to a GriGri however will need to "re-learn" how to belay a leader with it, since feeding rope and holding the Vergo is completely different from the GriGri. The redesigned release lever has little play, and because of its length you have greater leverage, so if you hold it by the end with one or two fingers it lowers very smoothly... but it does feel "insubstantial" and feels like it's going to break off at any minute, LOL.

Used the new version of the Vergo. Works exactly the same as the recalled model

Trango has fixed the issue that triggered the recall and worked 24/7 to redesign the handle and sent replacement units back to you in July.

Unfortunately, Trango has just become aware that during the assembly process several of the rivets attaching the handle to the replacement units were not fully pressed, which could result in the handle detaching.  If this occurs the braking mechanism remains fully functional but lowering the climber becomes more difficult.  As a result, all Vergo replacement units need to be returned to Trango immediately.

WHAT THE FUCK, TRANGO

Anyone else just get this?

Dear Valued Vergo Customers:

Thank you for participating in the Vergo recall process. The feedback from the climbing community has been overwhelmingly positive and we value your support and trust in our products.

Trango knows how inconvenient is for consumers to be without their VERGO belay devices during the peak climbing season, and we apologize.

This issue requires Trango to receive and inspect the replacement unit that we sent you.   We will resolve this issue and send out replacement units in the next few months. Please understand that we are doing all we can to get you your replacement Vergo as quickly as possible.

Trango realizes that this is disappointing and inconvenient for you, our Vergo customers.  To minimize the inconvenience, a replacement or refund is available upon your return of the replacement Vergo, please include a note if a refund is desired.

The return process for the replacement units remains the same: Please visit Trango website Vergo Return, and return your replacement unit as soon as possible.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Holy shit!

Trango just can't catch a break with the Vergo.

Anyone know how much they will give you if you decide to go the refund route?

Also, can we get a refund and just buy another one so we don't have to wait for the repairs?

Trango will cut a check for MSRP. You could, purchase another Vergo, but good luck finding one. REI pulled them the same day as Trango issued the recall. My order was cancelled before REI managed to complete it.

Gotcha, so this recall is for all the Vergos with the new handle I'm guessing?

I suppose I can wait another few months of not having it. I'd rather not get a new one to find out it needs to be returned too.

Well, they promised a check for MSRP and they delivered - the check arrived yesterday.

Considering the amount of time between the first recall and now, those of us that decide to return for a refund can at least feel good that we're supporting a company by providing them with a interest free loan of the cost of the device over the many months since this debacle started.

asking for a refund is probably saving them money at this point.

has anyone received any kind of update from trango after the second recall?

amarius · · Nowhere, OK · Joined Feb 2012 · Points: 20

No update from Trango, but I was able to purchase the pre-1st recall version from REI a week ago.

You're not providing them anything because they are not required to refund you the cost of the device in the first place. They arnt even required to recall it at all since neither of the two recalls were mandatory recalls imposed by the government. They lose money by giving you a refund because they sold it at dealer cost and they are refunding at retail cost. I'd say they are doing their customers a solid, far beyond what most companies outside of the climbing world would  do.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
