Neat. Any update on this? Do you know of any mail 3d printing shops which will print this in flexible plastic?

I did some work like this a while back. If you do plan on selling these, 3D printing isn't the way to go. Once you get a finalized design, a better option may be to order a mold making and casting kit and use that. It would only require one 3D print with any material and then make your silicone mold of that part. Then you simply pour the mix in the mold. Took maybe 10 to 15 minutes to harden (depends on part size though). You can really crank out some pieces with this method though! And there are a lot of different types of plastics you can buy. Some are more flexible than others. Just a thought! Great idea though!

Epic update for my climber bros. My now x girlfriend decided to be a stripper and hide it from me, so I moved out and my 3D printer is in storage and I am dirt bagging in a shitty 1970s scotty camper that leaks when it rains. Sorry I don't have the time or mental capacity to take this further at the moment, I actually don't have mental capacity for basic shit at the moment TBH.
For any of you that want one of these, simply take the 3D part file from the original post, jump on 3Dhubs.com, or shapeways.com or any other place that offers flexable prints and tell them to print it! Sorry I cant be of much more help than that at the moment. OR hit up alpinejason up thread and see if he will hook you up! cheers.

Hope you're at least able to climb more and things get better for you!

Might not be a legit concern but, after watching the video of a guy cutting a loaded climbing rope by barely touching it with a plastic knife, I wouldn't take the chance with hard plastic. This is immediately what I thought when I looked at it. Perhaps if it was molded from rubber? Making two part molds with silicon is super easy, and way way WAYYYYYY cheaper than 3d printing.

Following. This thread is a thousand times more interesting than 99% of the BS flying around on MP. Pay no attention to the hijackers arguing about its merit. I too have cruxed out fiddling with the damn thumb post on old C4s. Keep the updates coming! Did you fix the leak?

This is a good idea, sucks about the woman thing and about the dog. Refine your design a bit, upload it to shapeways (they have an elastomer plastic) make it available for people to buy, make some money, fix your roof (or just climb). I'm sure a number of people here would rather order something from shapeways, instead of dealing with downloading a file, and figuring out how to print it themselves; side benefit being to throw you a little $.

You need to 3d print a patch for your camper and than tape over it with some tenacious tape. That should stop the leaking! Sorry to hear about the girl mate, but your part is cool. I'm going to have one printed by my friend with a 3d printer and i'll try it out.

I posted it up on shapeways, I have no experience with their web site or using them as a service but here it is don't forget you need two of these things : https://www.shapeways.com/product/MN76EX8JB/thumb-loop-v3

Obviously we'd want it color matched. Edit: Yellow is definitely an option. No increase in cost of materials as far as I can tell.

Also very interested in getting a few of these. Does the version posted on shapeways work with the old school camalots as well as link cams?

Probably a non-issue. Because 3d prints are essentially a series of layers of extruded plastic beads (if that makes any sense) they tend to leave rounded edges when they break (following the line of weakness). I haven't seen any break leaving sharp edges. Anyone else?

Sounds like a great song man Honestly it has really only gotten worse/better since my last post too... I should write a book about my life, its fucking wild as shit man. I hit a bear with my truck this fall haha and so much shit i cant even share publicly the thumb loop is my contribution for all to use free an public, I think i make $1 off the shapways thing if someone buys so... for sure not getting rich there. I want to find time to do some open source ice axes next similar to the grivel ones that is a single piece plus wood and/or 3d printed handlezzzzz
