Hey all, I'm looking for a DSLR to take photos outside of climbing, surfing, and other nature photos. I don't know too much about cameras yet, just what I learned in school. Im looking for a deal with a camera body, lens, and a few extra batteries.

My budget is really low but I figured I could reach out to the MP community and see what's out there!

I have a Fuji S2 pro I could hook you up with pretty inexpensively. Shoot me a pm

If you don't need lots of megapixels, I have a Canon EOS 20D. Used less than 6X, std "normal" EF series lens, case, and one battery. $250? (make an offer) A good fast shutter camera with vastly superior low light performance than the shirt pocket-size P&S I carry nowadays. You can google the camera's specs; this is the standard body/lens/case package that is so common.

I have 2 cameras I want to sell.

Nikon D5200 - in new condition. Comes with all original accessories except box. I can also include a kit lens 18-55mm. This camera has 1000 shots on it which basically means it is new

Nikon D90 - In near mint condition. Comes with all accessories including box. Has 17k shots on it which is low for this camera. I can also include the 18-55mm with this camera.

I also have the 18-200mm VRII lens but this will make the package more expensive.

If either interests you let me know

I've got a Leica Vario X for sale. It's very compact compared to the average DSLR, which means you'll get more photos, and arguably takes better photos. It's great for outdoors as well and is extremely robust. It's in great condition still too.

I bought a cheap lx3. Takes good photos, some of the Leica are what I'd like to get. Chris, PM me about what you want for your Leica?

Chris Charron - looking for $1100 for the Leica Vario X and it's case (cost me around $3000). It seems that the camera on its own goes for about $12-1300 on eBay.

If you're just getting into adventure photography I'd highly recommend you look at mirror-less cameras. I'm a big fan on the M43 format and you can find high quality lenses and bodies from Panasonic and Olympus. A lot of photographers that have been around for awhile will complain about the shortcomings of mirror-less which are basically battery life and lower amount of lens offerings. I can carry my Panasonic GM1 with 5 batteries and be half the weight of a comparable DSLR. The second will be somewhat of a concern for you on a budget since the isn't much of a generation of used equipment for these but they're selling pro quality glass in new models now.

The advice for the cannon rebel lines is solid, you can find tons of used ones and the camera has enough features for you to learn everything. My biggest piece of advice for adventure photography is your camera is only better than the one on your phone if you have it with you. Mine is so light I clip it to the back of my climbing harness with a fly fishing net magnet and you can't beat the capture capabilities of M43 in that size/weight.

+1 for the toughness of the Panasonic camera's. Also the GH5 just came out so maybe you could find a discount GH4 used. As a plus it takes incredible video.

+1 for mirrorless cameras (hence my use of Leicas)

Depending on what you know? you said not a lot. DSLR could be a bad investment. Are you going to be a photographer or active participant in events. Learning to use an slr or DSLR can be challenging not to mention editing software to edit the photo's.
That being said full frame or crop, most people couldn't tell the difference if your not doing a large blowups you could get crop and be fine. Also using full manual you don't need alot of bells and whistles, you could pick up a nikon d300 or d90 pretty cheaply on ebay. sony a5 are also pretty cheap now I believe. Everyone will have different opinion on what's best. Most trend towards nikon or cannon.
then there the new mirrorless cameras which have all the functions of dslr but in alot smaller package. take your time play with a few camera talk to camera store people. Figure out what's best for you.

Obviously a mirrorless camera is going to be more compact and easier to carry. If budget is a major concern, DSLR bodies are far cheaper and there is a huge market for used lenses.

I know this isn't on your target for budget. I humbly suggest this alternative to a bulky DSLR.

Check out the Light L16. 16 lenses... Sounded wacky when I first heard the concept... but it can truly shoot pictures impossible to capture with any other camera.

52 MP images... with the ability to adjust the depth of field and focal length after the fact. Getting great images with low light and high all in the same frame.

These two shots below show off some of their fantastic results... I would need to shoot multiple pictures with a tripod and then spend a couple of hours in photoshop to get results anywhere near these.

Do know, they filling current orders and not taking any new ones till later this year.

Another bump on the mirrorless m43 system. So much lighter than the DSLR alternatives. Take a look at the Olympus OM‑D E‑M5 Mark II or the E-M10 Mark II. Pair with the one of the Olympus Pro lenses and you can get a weatherproof if go with the EM5, lightweight compared to DSLR, and plenty capable setup. Since they are slightly older than some of the new Panasonic releases, can score some great deals if you go used. If video quality is more important that still image quality, you would probably be better served by the Panasonic m43 offerings.
