Tallest routes in AL, TN, and GA
|
|
Does anyone know the tallest routes in AL, TN, and GA? |

AL is probably something in the 120ft range maybe at Steele? Even the 3 pitch route is pretty contrived, more of 20ft of V0-- to a ledge and then a single pitch above it. |

The tallest routes in Alabama, like three pitch at Steele, are located off SCC property. |

Just get your 1100ft at Laurel Knob |

I'd say stone mountain harbors the longest in Georgia but talulah is probably the longest legal. If you include ice I've seen a couple very impressive flows at little river canyon. |

TN would probably be one of the aid routes in Suck Creek on the other side of the creek. From the top of bomb's away you get a pretty good view of some other buttresses that are probably slightly longer. Either that or something in Big South Fork, but IIRC some of that is in KT as well. Bomb's away is great, though, if you don't mind a little choss. |

There are many areas in Alabama with taller routes than Steele (including the closed parts) that do not have public access. I can think of 4 off the top of my head but there are probably more. |

|
AL: multiple locations, none public, none likely over two pitches of vertical distance |
|
|
Yonah might have a longer route or two than Tallulah?? |

Don't seek the treasure. |

Tallest public in AL? Little River Canyon, my guess. |

Garrett, here is a link to an addendum for the Dixie Cragger's Atlas Tennessee Vol II. Topos for the long routes in the Big South Fork. |

Thanks Chris, that's the only DCA I don't have yet. That approach sounds adventurous. Hopefully I'll make it out to BSF before the summer. |
