waking up on a portaledge and having to go to the bathroom is a lot less painful if you dont have leg loops on, even if you just have to pee. that being said, ive struggled through the process with them on too.
Take your harness off completely! and have a sling or swami for sleeping. Make for a better night sleep.I take a regular sewn sling slide it on and tie an over hand knot which make it fit perfectly. But if you are nervous of your ledge failing at all ignore my post.
A swami is probably the most comfortable bivy arrangement, but having adjustable leg loops can be advantageous in other ways, like adding and removing rain gear while hanging at the belay.
I leave my Yates shield on at night and use a pee bottle or remove the legs if there's defecation to be done. But I'm able to sleep in all sorts of weird situations and discomfort. So there's that.
Anita - a girl - bought a Metolius wall harness, I think it was. The leg loops could not be removed!
Metolius claimed they make the attachment points in the back "full strength" and not detachable. But you don't NEED full strength attachments to hold up the back of your harness.
How the hell was she supposed to take a piss for f*ck's sake??? Or how would a guy take a dump?
Dumbest ass harness ever. What kind of moron would design a big wall harness without removeable leg loops???? "Big Wall Theory" at its finest.
Brought to you by the same dummies who invented the "Open Corner" in portaledge design. Of course, Deucey is about to blow the doors off all of that.
