Bad shoe resole

Did you experience a drop in quality in resoling shoes in Boulder area? I went to Perry's Shoe Shop because the are recommended on the La Sportiva website and that I didn't like the lob job Rock and Resole did on both mine and my climbing partner's shoes.

I took a nice pair of soft Tenaya Masai shoes that needed new soles and a toe cap. What I got back was a joke. They ground down the sole, but they didn't remove the sole, they just glued the new half sole over the old sole. This made half the the shoe a lot stiffer and it has a strange flex. Then they decided that I don't need a toecap, even that I had a tiny hole in the rand and i was supposed to get one. But they did charge the full amount for a toecap because they decided to glue .5 inch delimitation that I had in the rand over the heel.

I guess 36 bucks for the half soles + 15 for one toecap + 15 for little bit of glue is too much for a bad job that took them 3 weeks to do.

At least what i got back from Rock and Resole was a usable pair of shoes.

Julian-
I've been taking shoes to RnR for years and never had anything approaching the hack job that you describe. They've always done quality work on my rock and approach shoes, mostly recently last June. I'd recommend giving them a call and sharing your feedback before writing them off. If they don't stand by their work, then let us know!

Rock and Resole does an excellent job, every time I've sent shoes to them, for the past three years I've used them.

I used to send my shoes to Yosemite Bum, but was not a fan of the Evolve rubber they use and highly promote. Plus, my shoes would always come back a half size smaller, which they warn on their website will happen.

R n R resoles have never changed the sizing on my shoes.

Another vote for Rock and Resole. In 27 years I've never had my shoes done anywhere else and it's always been fantastic. As said above, get back with them and see what's up.

It was Perry's that did the bad job

I have been using rock and resole for the last 10 years or so, and they always did a good job. My only complain is the last time I use them they made the front of the shoes very rounded. A lot more than the original shoe design but I can live with that.

I will take take my shoes to R&R again. Unless, I start resoling my shoes again. That is a big possibility, it will be faster than waiting for 3 weeks.

here are some pics

You need to clarify in the OP that you are talking about Perry's.

Oddly I understood that Perry's did the crappy resole. Okay so it sucked and they did not do what you expected or asked. So why did you pay the bill? Why did you not go back and complain? Why bitch about it here unless you have gone back and bitched about the botched job. That would at least give readers an idea if Perry's pooch job was a one off and they stepped up or should be written off. If Perry did not step up then I would also let Sportiva know.

Yep, R&R is growing (they now sell gear, attempting to fill the "Neptune's-Void") and sure they have a long wait, but nothing drastically different from the service they've provided me in the last decade.

I've had nearly 10 pairs of shoes resoled there and I've been happy with them all. Bonus points for when Colby sews my tongue back in after I MOG them outta there on a few occasions!

20 years of Rock and Resole and never a poor job, not when Eric owned it and Patrick and Bennet were there, and not now. Today they seem to be doing an even better job maintaining the contour of down turn toed shoes. Your comments sound fishy to me.

I would recommend Tahoe Greater Gripworks. This guy is going great work, and his turn around time is the fastest around. During the height of the season, Chris was able to get my shoes back to me in a few days, whereas other re-solers were taking around 3 weeks!

RnR has a great rep, but if I have to mail shoes somewhere, I'm doing Lost Soles. Max's crew have done me right every time even after I moved.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
