MP Admins and community: What follows is just me saying what I need to say, for my self. Tomonator, you won, for a brief bit. The last hits you shot at me were hard taken. About 24 hours ago, I deleted every single part of my conversation in this thread. Stupid and pitiful. Not generally who I try to choose to be. I admit freely and publicly that at times I can be flipped almost instantly to a deep defeat. It's something I struggle with (many do), much of the time. It's never not there, I have to always work at it. 97% of the time, I'm managing about 97% good, but it's hard won. So, in a moment of defeat, those posts, whole conversations are gone. Tom, I looked at your page. I don't think the person who shot right back at me is the whole of who you are, not by a long shot, especially after noting Akita dogs and your "No ice was harmed" comment. If you ever do come this way, a real coffee and belay offer is there. Community, part of the defeat was the time that only I and the ugliness were in the thread. As it turned out, while I was busy deleting, rgold was busy typing. So much for being "abandoned". So. There are further comments in here now, mostly, sorta, heartening. Tim, I actually have defended you here and there on MP, but you, and others have got this H and H thing ridiculously, wildly, embarrassingly, wrong. You've got the coffee offer too anyway, because I suspect, from the more serious posts you've put up, and, you've made me laugh more than once, I suspect we'd be friends in person. Just to get this thing stopped, here it is. Straight story. In the gun thread, Hank had a lovely story about his grandpa's shotgun. I posted, with totally good intentions, something about the person, the memories, being special, not the object, and that Hank needed to be sure to make those great memories with someone down the line. That much, and Hank's reply, you can read online. His reply was so far, far off from my intent, that it should be obvious to anyone that some how my post had gone wildly askew. I pm'd Hank. Not the other way around. With a complete. Total. No strings attached. Apology. No idea what went wrong, just that it was...far from right, and completely not intended. See, this is what so many were trying to get across, and were getting flamed down, and what was frustrating, in much of that flash foxy thread and the ensuing hoopla. Understand, I'm not at all a fan of pc, thought police, or censorship, okay? And, there was, of course, still plenty of thoughtful back and forth. But. The person who is hurt, is correct that they are hurt. Period. They have been hurt. Blame can placed, excuses made, whatever. They nonetheless are hurt. Period. Iron out the mess later. Empathising with and apologizing for the fact they are hurt does not send you to prison, okay? Who is more right does not fix the wrong. Hank replied. That is his personal business, none of yours. I will only say that an expert marksman could not have managed to shoot an arrow more precisely into him than I unwittingly had managed blindfolded. That's it. The rest is what you, ALL of you, made of it, mostly good, actually. Apologies for hatcheting the thread. Exactly what I would argue vehemently against if the Admins were to run amok. Ah well. You're right, Burchy. I am stupid. Sometimes. :-) Bwa. Ha. Ha. Helen

I am not much into censorship but the last post by Sanllan was the type of snarkey bs that needs to be well thought through prior to posting as well as deleting.

This just in: 46% of the US population voting for a lying, narcissistic, racist lunatic does not bring an end to the modern civil rights movement! In fact, it only makes it that much more imperative that we highlight systemic and institutionalized discrimination, disempowerment, marginalization, and disenfranchisement. This includes the marginalization of urban voters through the US Senate and the Electoral college as well as the institutionalized discrimination against racial, ethnic, religious, and other disempowered minorities. We identify entrenched inequality in order to dismantle it. Pointing it out is not harassment. For me, it's a crucial responsibility of active citizenship.</quote I believe roughly half the people eligible to vote did vote, and roughly half (a bit less) of them voted Trump... So less than 1/4 of the population. You may be breaking rule #1 with some of the name calling here too (whether I agree or not), I have not read much of this thread though... Carry on (Was trying to quote someone up thread, doesn't look like it work...?)

That is RESPECT, or the lack thereof. I'm not talking about guys calling each other out, grumbling and ragging on each other about climbing. That's just how some guys act. It's more about showing respect for individuals and groups of people that are unlike ourselves. Hillary really blew it when she ignored and then disrespected a huge part of the American population, smirkingly calling them "a basket of deplorables". An elitist career politician who makes millions giving "speeches" to Wall Street doesn't need to look down her nose at people who get up at 4AM, work hard all day for low wages and struggle to provide for their families. Clueless... Not to say Trump is the best at showing respect for certain groups of people either... On a smaller, and ultimately insignificant scale, MP forum posters need to maybe learn to respect people for their differences and think twice before making certain remarks. Just my opinion and sorry if I sound preachy...

Old Lady H. I've only been on this thread a few months, however, in that time I have quickly been able to determine who means well and who is just looking to get a rise out of people. Patterns develop in peoples comments and it seems, to me anyways, that if you have ever offended someone, you did it without knowing or any malicious intent whatsoever. There are others, who are straight up looking for a reaction, and they get it consistently. Shame on the people who look to troll others and then get all sideways when their posts get deleted. Also shame on you who knowingly bite and then get all bent out of shape when they get flamed. I'll admit, I'm entertained a good part of the time and spend way to many working hours watching the antics on this board. The good part is that generally, when a good question that pertains to actual climbing comes up, the responses are direct, helpful and genuinely good hearted. In my opinion the "tone" is left to the posts that generally have nothing to do with climbing and is usually a social gathering of mostly faceless internet folks, and can be avoided simply by not clicking on that post if you don't want to be offended or hurt. As long as there has been an internet, there have been people that are bigger and braver and generally stupider than they are in real life. Thanks all for your help when I've asked.

Sanilan - yes, I'm sure that was your intent. I flagged your post. It was mean spirited, seemed intended to hurt, and was a perfect example of why the site landlords are taking these measures. Thanks, Nick, for taking steps to try and keep a little more civility in this tiny corner of the world at least.

Basket of Deplorables though, yeah, pretty much nailed herself.
Overall, she's just not an effective leader.

Hey, if you mean me, no, but I'm very, very conscious of where I am, and will go there if I have to. That's why I am open about it, depression that is, because, sorry this is a gendered statement, but... males in our culture tend to "self medicate" with booze, and it's a pretty easy assumption to make that we do have folks who are in, less than an ideal situation, let's say? I, for one, do not EVER want to be the one who is anyone's true last straw, that pushes them over that cliff. Best, Helen Gotta get to work. Be back later. :-)

I personally find it funny sometimes or annoying when this things happen. You pour your heart out or beat your chest depending on the situation only to not be taken serious or get made fun of. When you figure it out you're left with two ways, anger or laughter. I prefer the second one. Tim Lutz is, well was a reasonable guy just having fun. Don't feed into the threads where they appear and if that doesn't work confront by PM. Works for me. You might just make a friend.

He does this on Supertopo as well, but not lately. I have to say, he puts a whole lot more effort into his Taco photoshopping than he does here!
