I'm going to visit boulder in late July, I was planning on climbing the whole time so I was just going to pitch a tent somewhere in boulder canyon, can you do that? Also, i guess I'm going to try to find partners on here for sport climbing but for the days that nobody is available, i wanted do boulder a little.. are there a fair quantity of boulder problems in the canyon? If so, where could I find a guide book?

Thanks!

ps. if you're looking for a climbing buddy july 20- august 1 let me know (-:

There's no free camping in Boulder Canyon, unfortunately. There are some really nice pay sites at the Boulder Adventure lodge in the canyon, located about two miles up from town.

There is some free camping up west of Nederland on Forest service land, but I've heard it gets a bit overrun and unpleasant. I'd recommend the free primitive sites on FS land west of Gold Hill, on the Switzerland trail. I think you could get to them in a standard vehicle with some careful driving. Here's some coordinates to get you started:
40° 3'12.33"N
105°27'0.97"W
That's one little spur with some well-worn sites, or drive down the Switz trail towards the Mt. Alto picnic area to find more.

The Bob D'Antonio Boulder Canyon guidebook includes quite a bit of bouldering.

I'll be outta town during your visit, but good luck with partners. If all else fails, just show up at Animal world, Easter rock, Avalon, or anywhere you see a bunch of climber-ish cars. The canyon is always pretty busy in the evenings.

Thanks a lot Scott, super helpful.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
