Hi All, I'm searching the red rocks routes and I'm looking for advice pointing me in the direction of the crag with the most amount of easier routes - 5.7, 5.8 sport. Suggestions. Thanks, Jay

Don't forget TR routes. We had fun on the Tuna and Chips wall. Easy to set top rope, 5.6, 5.7, 5.8, 5,8. There's a 5.10 you should try also.

"Fun Climbs Red Rocks" is a good resource for that sort of objective. You can find it at REI, Amazon, and likely at the local Desert Rock Sports store if you are in town. stores.sharpendbooks.com/fu…

"Moderate Mecca" in Calico Basin. The Black Corridor has a few routes at that grade. Honestly, Red Rocks is an AWESOME place for pushing your grade limit. You should do your best to hop on some stuff in the 5.9-5.10b range. The rock is friendly, bolting is generally tight, chalk is abundant (for better or worse). Have fun!

Panty Wall at first pullout. Pretty much all 5.8 sport.

B-Mkll wrote:"Moderate Mecca" in Calico Basin. The Black Corridor has a few routes at that grade. ! AWFUL choices for leading easy sport. Mecca is loose and not well bolted for what little sport there is there and the Corridor is sandy and starts at 5.9! Also Panty Wall isn't exactly a beginner wall...it's rated easy but it tends to be slabby and slopey. I send new leaders to Cut Your Teeth Crag and Amusement Park Wall. Amusement park is a wall of only 5.7's and will be shady all day BUT, it is slabby. Cut Your Teeth crag will be sunny until afternoon but it is a jugfest of easy well bolted routes. Also The Hamlet will be shady in the morning is a great crag with several 5.7's and 5.8'd that are again well bolted and quite a jug haul.

Hey Gang, Looks like some folks here are confused. Maybe rather than buying an antiquated guidebook perhaps buy the new, awesome Jerry Handren guidebook that will assist you as you progress through climbing from guppy to "rock climber." Often it even indicates how many bolts and feet a route are tall. It even has maps (should you be capable of reading one) that indicate aspect, such that you could even make an intelligent decision as it relates to aspect. Couple that with sun angle/time of year and presto - intelligent route and crag selection. Weather is splitter out in Red Rock, go get after it! Woot! Woot! Andre H
