Tell me about rock climbing near Bozeman
|
I know bozeman is a world class ice venue, |
|
What type of rock is there??
Primarily granite (and metamorphics), limestone, and volcanic choss is there good cracks? Yes, but not world class, but good. Homestake Pass is a relatively short drive with really fun crack climbing. long traditional lines? Gallatin canyon has some longer multipitch routes, the Absarokas have some really quality alpine lines (same as Beehive area), the northern Bridgers have long multipitch limestone climbing (not quite sport!) good sport climbing? Tons within a few miles. etc? There is a lot of really good climbing with a lot of variety packed in that is accessible by day trips. Pick up a copy of Dockins' Bozeman Rock Climbing. |

Bozeman has great access to a lot of quality rock. Best crack climbing is over at Lost Horse and Blodgett Canyon by Missoula. The Cowen Cirque has some incredible, long, alpine routes. Gallatin has some great stuff up to 5 pitches. The Sport climbing is pretty great with plenty to keep you busy and the bouldering scene is ever growing with tons of new areas being discovered and developed. Overall an awesome town with a great climbing scene |
