Stover in PA. People get hurt there all the time. The routes constantly change because they are always falling apart. People constantly throw shit off the top. Its dirt and basically shale. When I lived in Central NJ it was referred to as the Stover Shit Pile.

I thought Rock and Ice issued a master list a few years ago. Seward Highway, south of Anchorage Ak. Road cuts, frost fracturing, bad bolts, bolting wars, and goats kicking rocks. Every spring another climb falls off. More fun than most people are ready for.

Quincy Quarries in Mass (actually a TR crag, close enough)

If you ignore the graffiti, broken glass, and car break-ins, you can find some fun climbs at this railroad-quarry-turned-dumping-ground/crag!

Riverside quarry in LA. The climbing is ok but the place is used as the local city dump and you would be wise to consealed carry there.

Falling Rock just out of Rapid City South Dakota. Some folks might want to flay me for saying this but you have to rap in, and there is no good place to hang out. Forget bringing your kids or dogs. The climbs are not very good when compared to what the Black Hills has to offer and it is more than likely haunted by the ghosts of the people who have committed suicide there through a vast variety of grisly means.

Virgin River Gorge - not aesthetic, just hard, made even more unattractive with the noise and fumes of I-15.

+1 for Riverside Quarry. Nasty place, garbage everywhere, spray paint, bums, trailer trash on dirt bikes and 4x4s, bird poop, human poop, scary rock fall, smog, and it's in the middle of Riverside which is a ghetto. Lucky for me I left LA

Wow some of these sound great/atrocious, amazing what we will put ourselves through to do this pointless activity.

My personal worst is probably the Valley of Zion in the Stansburys west of SLC. Choss, rat shit, rednecks shooting guns at the hillside right below you, and such horrendous mosquitos for being on a dry hill in the desert. The highlight of the day was seeing a guy hiking around with a pistol strapped to his chest, an ice axe on his backpack (in May, no snow) and a fully loaded down goat on a leash, saying he was going climbing.

I'll take this opportunity to thank the developers of this and other areas, thanks for spending your time, energy, money, blood, sweat and other bodily fluids putting in those clippy things, cleanong the rock, and publishing dubious information so we can all get out and send! Funny how the worst days climbing are always better than the best days indoors.

rocky butte in portland, OR is pretty bad.

people trowing trash off the top, homeless camps, slimy, super dirty, broken glass in cracks, nasty silverfish type bugs, and the tale of someone putting their hand in a crack and getting stabbed by a used syringe.

Actually pretty much all those portland area crags...O-zone has a bad car break-in problem, was literally a trash dump for the locals, and so dirty.

Oh, forgot to add that despite a campground of sorts in proximity, the threat of theft, rape, and murder there makes a hotel room in Mesquite a much saner choice. But since it's only 1.5 hrs to Red Rock, why? is the obvious question.

I take it you haven't traveled much. Granted, it's not Buoux or Kalymnos, but there are certainly far bigger dives out there.

Regarding the VRG,

Rob T wrote: Great stone, hard routes, grades that stand up outside the area, but I'm glad people continue to bag on it, at least there will be one good "Utah" crag that isn't over run by life style climbers any given weekend.

Fair enough. Personally, the negatives outweigh the positives for me. (Frankly, so do the grades, but that's a different topic!)

Rumney on a weekend?

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
