Mid Pines to Bishop

Hi Guys,

I need to go from Mid Pines to Bishop. Google Map says I need to go down past Bakersfield and at the city of Mohave, head back up north to get to Bishop. The whole trip takes 6.5 hours. I could also head up to South Lake Tahoe, but that still takes 6 hours and with a Honda Civic, I can't deal with snow very well.

Is there really no other more direct way? It's just that on the map, Mid Pines and Bishop look close together. Thanks!

During the winter, they close the pass that would otherwise take you directly across the Sierra. Your options are to go up around Tahoe or down around Bakersfield, unfortunately.

What cnadel said. The more direct routes are now under many feet of snow and won't be plowed until May.

Thanks for the confirmation. Well, the long way it is. If there's any place of particular interest to a climber/photographer/hiker en route to the Bishop area from San Francisco, please let me know. Be it an awesome cafe/bakery, gear shop, parks, etc. Sightseeing/exploring/learning the area still. Thanks!

When are you going. Take the Tahoe route (weather should be clear this coming week) and stop at Bodie ghost town and Mono lake with your camera. Keough hot springs has been pretty clean.

Next week or so. Been trying to find a month-to-month sublet in the Bishop area that allows cats but am having a hard time. Was hoping for better luck if I drive there and ask around since a few hours of online search returned just a few postings and most don't allow cats. Those that do require a year lease or offer a bigger place (2 br) than I need and cost more $$.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
