Looking for Winter Mountaineering Course

I'm looking for a good mountaineering course or maybe some info on finding one. I've found several via Google of course, but would like some firsthand input if any is available.

I'd really like to learn basic winter mountaineering skills e.g. rope travel, self arrest, travel protocols for traveling in avalanche terrain, how to stay generally comfortable in cold conditions, etc.

I've found several courses in CA and Utah that do 2 days for $400. This sounds reasonable and may sign up for one if I can't find the equivalent in CO. I would, however, be much more inclined to join a course with a cheaper cost.

Also, if anyone would be willing to mentor me or at least discuss the possibility, then please send me a message.

Colorado Mountain School in Estes Park does a 2-day "Intro to Mountaineering" course for $425. It's certainly not cheap, but it's quite good.

Kyle,

I've used these guys for years. Great guys, AMGA certified. And in the North Cascades, so plenty of snow, ice and glaciers.

If you arrange a private course, they will tailor it to your desires.

Pete Lardy is an awesome guide. I highly recommend Pikes Peak Apline School.

1. Put on crampons.
2. Walk.
3. Repeat
4. Stick pointy thing in snow if you fall.

Mountaineering course done.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
