I'm looking for moderate (5.7-5.9) multipitch sport climbs high up on Mount Lemmon. Ideally, they'll be in the shade (this heat is killer) and have belay ledges adequate for a party of four. I know about the Fortress (Steel Crazy, et al)...how are the belay ledges on those climbs? Are there other areas I should look into? I've heard Outcroppings...how are those belay ledges? Thanks for the info
I would drop the idea of climbing in a party of four. It'll negate any advantage of an early start, and you'll get nailed either by the heat or by the storms.
The two-pitch routes at the Outcroppings might be a good place to practice belaying two seconds at the same time (party of three), but it'll be somewhat hot there even early on, and get steadily worse.
Check out Fisherman's Elbow and Twice as Nice on the Fortress and Hotshot on the Ravens. With an early start these should be in the shade (they face more or less west). If you must climb in a party of 4 please be considerate of other parties.
Thanks guys...Obviously, I'd be considerate of other parties. I want to lead a group (me and 2-3 others) of moderate climbers who haven't been exposed to multipitch yet, which is why I'm concerned about the belay ledge issue.
