I was wondering if anyone know how close la sportiva sizes are to five ten. I am looking to buy some anasazi VCS's off the internet, and trying to decide which size to get.
also for that matter i am just looking for a great all around trad shoe what are peoples favorits?

my experience buying 5.10's (galileos in particular) on the net has been pretty bad. they have horrible consistency in sizing (ie i have a pair of 41's that is larger than a pair of 42's, a pair of 41.5's that are huge, a pair of 41.5's that are tighter than hell, i have pair of 41.5's that have a really sharp area above my left big toe knuckle and they hurt like hell, etc). i don't reommend it, even if the shoes are on sale. when i go to buy a pair of galileos, i tell them to bring out every pair between 41 and 42, then i pick the pair that fits best. i had pretty much the same luck back when i wore anasazis. i think it is a lot better to spend the time and money to get the best pair you can.

You have to try them on. Different models within the same manufacturer fit differently. You can't figure out size on a Internet forum.

I wear the same size in both five ten and sportiva. IMHO its more about how the model fits then how the make fits. I've tried on verdes and vcs of the same size and they feel different on the feet. Sportiva shoes tend to be leather though and so there will be more stretch in them and the fit is more forgiving. All shoes need breaking in though so don't expect a pain free climbing experience from the get go. For the anasazis (non leather)I would go a half to a full size down from your street shoe depending on your usage and pain tolerance. For sportiva (leather) I would go a full size down. TC Pros are the best all round trad shoes. They are too expensive but look around for deals. Jim

I like my TC Pros. My advice is to try on shoes before you buy them. It's hard to compare between brands. Just a slight variance can alter the fit. Two different pairs of shoes in the same size can fit differently.

The only way that I would buy a shoe online is from Zappo's, where you can order 3-4 sizes of the shoe, and return (for free shipping) the sizes you don't want. There are simply too many variables to shoe sizing for one not to try on the shoes & climb on them. But Zappos also doesn't run massive discount sales on odd half-sizes only, either. Pay the extra to just go into a store and try em and buy em. If you don't know your size for sure, there's a good chance you'll get the wrong size anyway.

I bought mine from Inner Peaks in Charlotte. I'm not sure if they're still carrying them, but you can give them a call.
