How will Lovers Leap be in late April? Will we have to deal with snow, or should things have cleared by then?

It varies, but should be fine. Keep an eye out for storms coming through and temperatures. If cold and there had been snow recently, go down the hill to Phantom Spires or Sugarloaf for snow-free enjoyment of high quality granite. There may be variable snow on the approach/descent at that time of year for the Leap.

Just got some more snow this week I'd expect snow on the approach. I should be driving passed there in the next couple weeks, and if I think about it I'll report back with some beta on lovers leap.

Andy, Unless something crazy happens, you should be just fine for late April. We have had an exceptionally low snow year and the base of the Leap is only at ~6200 feet. For example, we have a storm system moving through tonight, but it is only going to get down to about 34 degrees so it will be raining. If you want to check the weather forecast over the next few weeks to keep an eye on snow, you will want to enter "Twin Bridges, CA" into the NOAA.gov webpage. Another good way to check for snow amounts near the Leap is to keep an eye on the website that I list below. The guy that operates this site logs weather data for Strawberry/Twin Bridges (Strawberry is the little community right below the Leap). saber.net/bagee/index.htm#C… In particular, the guy has a link to his webcam that looks out into his backyard and the images are updated many times each day. You will notice that he has a snow gauge; also notice that currently there is only a smidge of snow on his porch, but none in the woods in his yard. Now, his webcam is at an elevation of 5900 feet, so he is a bit below the Leap proper, but not by much and I doubt that conditions are a whole lot different a few hundred feet up. Here is a direct link to his webcam (click on the different pictures on the left of the screen to see a time series of past images): saber.net/bagee/photo_frame… Hope this helps.

Great info guys, thanks. We were planning on staying in South Lake Tahoe. So it sounds like unless there is a Spring/Winter storm it should be good. The crag faces NW yes? So cold mornings but nice afternoons?

Anyone know if next week you'd be able to swing it?

Lovers will be great, flows should be a solid medium....but that wasn't what you were asking was it...because you've become a slave to the rope.
