Tahoe skiing trip planned for months...

But there is no goddamn snow! So I threw my sport gear in with my bootbag. Anyone have any tips for finding some places with easy to moderate sport? I did a search on the tahoe vicinity for stuff up to 5.10, and looks like Big Chief in truckee river canyon might be my best bet. Are there other locations where I can bring my newbie brethren? Also, anyone have ideas where I can pick up a guide book?

Thanks!

Reno, place rented in South Lake Tahoe for the week. But I'm willing to drive a few hours. Shame Yosemite is so far...

thanks for the book tip.

REI in reno should have the book. in south lake you are super close to lovers leap, sugar loaf, and the woodfords. Do you have a rack>

There aren't that many bolts to clip in Yosemite either though....
North Lake will have some sport climbing that will be available right now. There are a few options near South Lake, but most are high in elevation or don't have good sun, which you'll need.
There is a new guide book for North Tahoe that has tons of stuff in it.
You can get a copy of that and good beta on where to go at Alpenglow Sports in Tahoe City or the Backcountry in Truckee.

Hint: Check out Alpenglow's Facebook page today.

If you're in SLT then you got options. In town there is Pie Shop great on a sunny day, south facing and short approach. Lovers Leap is good once the sun hits it, days are getting longer now. Phantom Spires and Sugerloaf both have good sun exposure and easy approaches since there is no snow. Good luck and have fun

Indian Springs is a decent place. Also Emeralds/ Larry Land/ Bowman Lake has been more developed. There is a thread about it over at Supertopo

Admittably its not the greatest but there isn't "no snow."
I've been to Boreal, Squaw and Alpine recently.
Of those Alpine is probably the best right now.
Yeah, not a ton of terrain open but hey, its still skiing.
Sorry, I don't know about the south shore though. But Alpine isn't terribly far from the south side.
Unless it snows that is...

Interesting short article on how bad it is in Tahoe. PLUS if you haven't watched and started playing G.N.A.R yet...this is the site! Enjoy!!

Oh and do a snow dance for the CO rockies too...we need it bad!
