Mountain biking or ATV rental? Front range or Summit Co.

We're staying in the Boulder area but wouldn't mind heading to summit county/etc for good trails. Can anyone recommend a mountain bike rental place that is close to some good semi-technical single track trails where we wouldn't have to try and transport the bikes in our little rental car? Maybe somewhere in Summit Co where we can grab some lunch/dinner in town?

Forecast says thunderstorms so we'd like to not get struck by lightning but getting rained on doesn't bother us. Alternatively is there anywhere similar that rents ATV's or Dirt bikes for full days (unguided).

Thanks
Nick

I had a good experience with Vail Ski Tech last summer. They had everything from 5 in cross country bikes to 8 inch down hill bikes. My dad broke the chain off his bike five minutes after getting it, and they gave him a replacement bike immediately no questions asked.

Rent a bike, ride lifts, try not to break all of your bones on the way down. It's entertaining. As for ATV's - you'll end up in the crappiest and most eroded and destroyed areas with a bunch of drunken rednecks - but maybe that's your thing. Can't help you there except I'm sure there are options. Consider a hike as an option. Most of the 14ers are in. Check 14ers.com to pick a route. Grays and Torreys are in and very close to I70. Get a super early start and/or camp at the trailhead the night before - better parking and lightning avoidance plus you get to sleep in just a bit longer.

hahahaha definitely not into the redneck thing... Hiking to Chasm lake was our original plan but the forecast is calling for a 50% chance of thunderstorms by 11am.

Mountain and road biking in Summit County: summitdailynews.co.newsmemo…

Wilderness Sports on Main St. in Frisco rents a wide range of mountain bikes, road bikes and hybrids. One option is to ride the Peaks Trail as an out and back, starting in Frisco and turning around at the end of the trail in Breck. If that's too much climbing, put your bike on the bus from Frisco to Breckenridge, take another bus or the gondola to Peak 8, and ride the Peaks Trail as a (mostly) downhill, or ride the bike path/road from Frisco to Breckenridge and ride the Peaks Trail back. The Wheeler Trail (goes between Peak 8 and Peak 9 at Breckenridge Ski Area) is another option, it can be done as a loop from Frisco or you can use the county bus system to cut out the on-pavement parts. Do not try to bring a bicycle on the bus system late in the day, especially on weekends, there are more bicycles than spaces on the bike racks then.

Eating/Drinking: Dillon Dam Brewery has a good reputation, so does the Back Country Brewery in Frisco. Rasta Pasta and Daylight Doughnuts on Main Street in Breckenridge are both good.

Another option is to climb Grey's and/or Torrey's peaks, closer to Boulder than Summit County, and fewer tourists. If you want something more than the standard trail route, do Kelso Ridge and link the two peaks that way.

Wow way to stereotype. Some people who ATV are drunken rednecks, the same way some climbers are cocky, self centered, stinky stoned hippies who think they are better then those who find enjoyment in past times that burn gas.

Not sure about ATV rental in Summit, but I know central city and Idaho Springs both have companies that rent them. I'm sure a quick google search will provide you with several options.

I don't own an ATV, but everytime I borrow one from a friend I have fun (but not as much fun as climbing:)

Yup, God forbid you spend some cruising time enjoying one of our many miles of historic BC roads on a MC or ATV. . . JPL might think you drink beer (and we're all worried about JPL's thoughts).
As you can see from these pics, the place is totally trashed with drunken rednecks runnin' amuck! Ew, baaaad people!

Who knows and who cares what one guy weighs, you pretentious prick.

And whoever said that it was a trail, let alone "pristine"?
If you take the time to read what I wrote, rather than your lost interpretation: . . ."spend some cruising time enjoying one of our many miles of historic BC roads". . . You know, some of the same roads that climbers use to get closer to climbs, or go camping, or catch some views, or set up a new bolt ladder.

Damn no need for all the hate it's all good. I'm not a big ATV guy but I'm with my fiance and she doesn't ride motorcycles so that's why I asked. I've owned one form of motorcycle or another since I was 16- including dirtbikes, track only bikes (road course not drag), goldwings etc. I've never had an adventure bike though, looks like fun. When I move out here in a couple months I'll probably be bringing my 1000rr along, the roads out here are amazing.

Anyways I got some awesome pictures of Longs today, I didn't see any climbers but I took about 400 pictures. As soon as I get home I'll go through them and post up.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
