We were talking about this last night because a friend is moving there. The answer to probably not but I think Wild Iowa is 45min away.

Looks like JStark has been to these places but needs some in town training? Make a Bacher Ladder, best training tool there is.

I've got a friend in Dubuque that needs a place to train. Right now he's driving all the way to the Cedar Rapids area.

Looks to be an hour from Dubuque to Governor Dodge. Hell, I drive an hour to get to the gym sometimes...

I second governor dodge, not much in terms of roped climbing but lots of good bouldering. In terms of gyms the closest one might be the Iowa City one, but i know that if your into ice climbing that a silo in cedar falls is frozen every winter, so there's that. In terms of climbing IN Iowa there's pictured rocks for decent sport climbing.

The last time I went hiking at Whitewater the rules and regulations sign in the parking lot said climbing wasn't allowed. Roped or otherwise.

Mississippi Palisaides is less than an hour south of Dubuque on the Illinois side.

Correct. And no rappelling either. There are some protected species there, and the conservation boards (it's a coooperation between Jones and Dubuque counties) are doing their job.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
