Visiting Spokane and Wanting to Climb

I'll be in the Spokane area from 6/21-6/24 and would like to meet someone or several to show me around the local crags. I will have late afternoons and evenings open. I'm from Boise, ID and lead sport 5.10a and follow 5.10c or so. What's the local scene like? If I show-up at the crag with my gear will fellow climbers take on a third?

The scene is interesting.

Your best bets for climbs in that range with other people climbing in the area are Minnehaha or Post Falls. I prefer to climb at Post Falls because there's a lot more routes that you can comfortably lead. I have successfully bummed belays at Post Falls but I suppose it just depends on who is out there. There are usually a lot of inexperienced climbers there who are probably not used to someone asking to join them.

Also FYI there is a party at the climbing gym (Wild Walls) on the 22nd from 7-10. Free climbing and free food and drinks. So if the weather is bad, or you can't find partners you may want to check that out.

Also PM me if you want my number. You can give me a call when you're in town. I can't promise I'll be available because I have multiple obligations next week but I may be able to connect you with friends if any of them are out climbing.

I can probably climb 6/21, 6/22, and 6/24, unless my work schedule changes. As far as showing up at the crags, in my experience Deep Creek climbers are the most welcoming as far as letting you climb with them, but the climbs are mostly 5.11 and harder. I think you might be ok at minne or post falls, but he's right, you could get some hesitant people at those areas, mostly just newer climbers and lower comfort level with that sort of thing.

Tuesday evenings, the Spokane Mountaineers hang a bunch of ropes at Minnehaha, and Thursdays they are at Post Falls. They used to be OK with non-members joining in and were pretty cool about it when I asked in the past.

I'd be happy to show you around. Give me a call if you want to climb.
