I saw a guy at the gunks a while back with an HB carbon fiber helemt. It was sweet but apparently impossible to buy due to the fact that they are out of business. Any suggestions on where to find a bitchin helmet? I've scoured the internet but can't find anything. Shred ready makes some sweet helmets but im hesitant to buy due to the difference in impact forces sustained between whitewater and climbing. Are there major differences?

I always thought it was spellled "shwag."

Sorry, I have nothing helmet-related to add to the discussion.

The Camp Speed helmet is pretty light 7.4 oz. Thats about how much lighter you wallet will be minus the hundred dollar bill and change though. Still a pretty sweet helmet.

Russell, check out the actual specifications of the helmet you are considering. Some other types of helmets meet specs essentially equivalent to the climbing specs. Currently I use a snowboard helmet-- impact and penetration specs matched the climbing helmets, and side & back protection looked better to me (a bit heavier and warmer though).

To further contribute to the thread drift...

I had always thought it was spelled swag, but it appears either way is acceptable. According to dictionary.com:

Swag:
–noun
1.Slang .
a.plunder; booty.
b.money; valuables.
2.slang goods; valuables

Schwag:
-noun
Definition: free merchandise; swag
Example: We attended the conference to load up on schwag.
Etymology: by 1995
Usage: slang

Also possibly of use to climbers is the other meaning of schwag or swag, which according to dictionary.com is:
Schwag:
Part of Speech: n.
Definition: low-quality marijuana; swag
Example: Give those geeks the schwag; they won't know the difference.
Etymology: by 1995

FWIW, the mp.com dictionary seems to recognize swag but not schwag.

I heard it was an acronym also. Something like "Sample Wares and Goods". Generally designated to be given away by sales(wo)men.

All above definitions of swag (and spellings) are correct in one way, as much as they can be for slang anyway. I think the one the OP was going for was short of swagger, as in "badass factor" of someone's walking. Such as "gettin' your swagg on" as you walk across the ghetto.

Again, nothing helmet related to add, sorry.

There are some pretty sweet carbon kayaking helmets. But I don't think they would make good climbing helmets. As for impacts if you get flipped over in a shallow river your helmet better hold up or you're toast. Seems like the foam that makes the kayak helmet good for boating would make it way too hot for climbing.
