Two things:

1 - how has nobody mentioned this as it has seriously affected access and the future of the area.

2 - for those who have no idea what I am referring to...http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/outdoors/2014681227_websignpost04.html

We went out today to visit our projects only to find access gone. I started to wonder just how much damage there was and came here and cascade climbers, only to find nothing.

I was hoping someone had hiked and reported back. Looks like we will have to do a recon mission and let people know if the boulders are even still where they were left at the end of last season. It won't happen next weekend as we are in socal, but if someone else doesn't get to it first, we will do so the following week.

Shocking.

i'm shocked at no.1 seeing as there were a plethora of cars at forestland and plenty of climbers scattered along the road up to 'eight mile campground'. when we arrived at the landslide today we had no clue of when it occurred and decided to check forums this evening upon our return to civilization. guess the slide is a month old. curious.

our roommate was on a mission to enchantment lakes (?) with a group, turns out there's no access to that trail either. perhaps this was the first beautiful day since the slide. ? maybe.

the road is closed at the entrance to the campground, don't care about the campground...so didn't notice if they were open to the public...i could make a u-turn. :) there are no blockades where dirt met asphalt, and cars are parking up next to the dirt pile.

hope we see a few more new boulders...i have always hoped that one could turn your current boulder over once you've gotten tired of the routes...but i have some projects still! :D i shouldn't joke, there's creatures with no homes. sadness.

haha seems I was too tired when searching cc. thanks for the link.

sounds like there is a fresh new boulder to clean off...yay! and the camp ground will open soon (who effing cares)...also a work around for those stuck (residents) will be present soon (that's great news for them).

There is access to enchantment lakes. It just involves hoofin' it up the road a ways. Normally, Eightmile road is closed due to snow until mid-spring anyway. With all this late winter snow, I'd be surprised to see that road open even now. We were up there in late April, hoofed it, skied it, and found 5 feet of snow covering the upper portions near the trailheads.

As for the landslide, you could hike a bike up and over it. It's only 1/3 mile long, if that.

Wow, thats way bigger than I had first heard. I thought it was just a few boulders on the road. Looks like I'm not going to Colchuck this week!

Apparently as of last week work to clear the road still had not started. Here are a few shots that I took while I was out there:
Leavenworth Mudslide

I was hoping it'd be navigable by Memorial Day but i think I might have to go elsewhere for the long weekend.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
