sadly about 90% of that gear is useless to you, get new shoes, a harness, and a chalk bag and find a gym to learn. there should be one within a few hours from you, you are in Utah after all. Good luck, have fun.

OK, The flea market at a place called Black Diamond was really helpful for me getting gear. I have a used 50 meter rope now, instead of only 40 feet. The guy said he only used it one season, and that was ten years ago. It was 30 dollars. I picked up these "hex" things for about 20 dollars. I am not sure how you place them yet, and I am not sure how you are supposed to get them out after you hammer them in, but I am sure someone will show me in time. Finally, I have some of these "cam" things. They are made by Splitter Gear, and look really cool. No need for a hammer with those :-) all five of those cost me 50 dollars. So, for 100 dollars total, I now have almost all the gear it takes to go climbing. I still need a partner, and would really like to learn how to use all of this soon. E-mail me PLEASE! J.F. Sebasitan

I understand your eagerness to get out and just climb, but please find proper instruction at a gym or guiding service, for the safety of you and others. Also, learn about gear before you buy it, you'll save a lot of money only buying what you actually need, and you won't get in over your head.

Those EBs might be worth a few bucks. Quit trolling and sell..sell that gear to collectors.

J.F. Sebastian wrote:I am looking for a rock climbing partner in the Lehi Utah area. I am new to this sport, but I want to become the best climber ever. I have only been climbing one month now at the Lehi Recreation Center, and I am certified to top rope belay (staff assisted). I don't own any transportation, or have a cell phone, but I check my e-mail at the library every day. Lets go climbing!!! The cool part to this is, My boss just gave me all of his climbing gear from when he tried climbing at my age. He says the gear is a bit old, but it should be good. The shoes are brand new, the rope was used to repell a few times, and the protection is almost new. So, lets go out and use my new gear!! We could meet at the library and climb, climb, CLIMB!!! Please, send me a private message and lets go climbing soon. I plan to be good enough to be bolting first ascents in another two weeks, so let be a team and make history! Thanks, J.F. Sebastian I am also looking for a partner! I am thinking of going on a road trip. I heard about this place somewhere out west called "The Nose". I'm thinking this will be great for my first route. Cuz if "The Nose" looks anything like my nose it will be covered in lots of bumps and stuff that will make good handholds. Also, Google said that the climb is only 31 pitches. I also think this is perfect. I can't pitch very far at all, so I'm thinking 31 pitches will be long enough to be fun but not too long. Google said the climb is going to take 5 days, but I think most of that is getting used to the lower oxygen levels at high altitude, like on Everest. Some people are just weak. I just bought a bunch of stuff for climbing. I was at Lowes and their rope was on sale so I bought like 300 feet of the 3500-pound stuff. They also had a sale on nuts and bolts. I bought a bunch of these too, since people always talk about using them for climbing on this site. And I think I can help with the hex problem. I'm pretty sure my dad's tool box has some things called "hex keys" which will probably work. You're gonna have to show me how to make a harness though, and I hope you don't mind sharing some of that green webbing stuff. I have plenty of shoes, and I think I can make some old tennis shoes look like climbing shoes by filing down the treads some to make them flat on the bottom. In fact, I think I have a pair of Converses that look just like those shoes in your picture! Anyway, get in touch with me very soon. I only started climbing in the gym in December, but I am getting super stoked about doing this trip. I'm thinking I'll be ready to go by June, as soon as I can do some of the orange climbs in the gym without falling off.

Yeah. I have been teased all my life about the Bladerunner name. When your parents name you Jermaine Francisco Sebastian, you just might as well throw you hands in the air and say F^@& My Life!! I have no way to win, but at least there a few people out there who have not seen the movie. It was SOOOOO much fun to be the only Caucasian child in school, and be named after one of the Jackson family. Having a movie character who is ugly, sad, and lonely, share your same name isn't much help in the situation either. I am sure though, that if my name was John McClane someone would be making a Die Hard movie joke too. (at least he was funny and cool though) I should have just made up a screen name like Joe Smith, that seems like a good name for Utah. I am sure that would instill trust and confidence in my climbing partners to say: I am not really Joe Smith, but J.F Sebastian. Now, trust me with your life. I may not like my name, but at least I can smile and laugh when people make a joke about it. Now, everyone else: Thank you for all the great advice and support. I have a lot to learn, and each day brings new information to help me out. The information about Momentum's two week learners plan sounds like a perfect way to start. I plan to start monday. P.S. Tits McGee: Thanks for making me laugh. Your no one till somebody hates you...
