Oh No. At this point in my life, my brian has more potholes than the moon.

Wow the brain scans are pretty cool. I'd be interested to see some "healthy" brain scans comparing different things like 58 year old spending winters in Salt Lake winter inversion or LA smog. Compared to say a similar aged person living in a clean air area. Maybe see if there is a difference between a Vegan brain and a Omnivores brain. What about different 95 year olds.

I guess I don't think much about legality of things as much as I used to. Seems most people I know do what they want either way. Take speeding in a car for instance. I may not be the most socially conditioned person though, so I should step back from my attachments and see the appeal to those who are acutely aware of the society around them. Less worry, hassle, etc. If it were legal. I think the growers make too much for them to be really interested in decriminalization, although the whole medical aspect seems to perk interest. After all aren't Health Care costs one of the driving forces in the change of our economy? I dunno just thoughts, I've read so many different studies that say so many different things. It's like Global Warming. A lot of people just seem so attached to one side or the other that they can't seem to get to the point of detached observation.

I'd like to see the brain scan of a compulsive Mt. Project user....

Must be nice. If you get caught twice with any amount of weed in Oklahoma, you are a felon. Every single offender in this state is prosecuted. Another side note, the 2 states with the strictest laws in the nation...Oklahoma and Utah. Too bad I live in the flat one with tornadoes. More reason to move to Colorado

I think Peter Tosh says it best:

Legalize it - don't criticize it
Legalize it and i will advertise it

Some call it tampee
Some call it the weed
Some call it Marijuana
Some of them call it Ganja

Legalize it - don't criticize it
Legalize it and i will advertise it

Singer smoke it
And players of instruments too
Legalize it, yeah, yeah
That's the best thing you can do
Doctors smoke it
Nurses smoke it
Judges smoke it
Even the lawyers too

Legalize it - don't criticize it
Legalize it and i will advertise it

It's good for the flu
It's good for asthma
Good for tuberculosis
Even umara composis

Legalize it - don't criticize it
Legalize it and i will advertise it

Bird eat it
And they leave it
Fowls eat it
Goats love to play with it

Love,

This is the kind of stuff that bothers me about the marijuana talk. Inconclusive and non-specific evidence that people then use to make broad claims about the health risks of drug use. It seems that the picture of the "healthy brain" that you compare to the 18 year old is the same picture of the "healthy brain" used to compare to the 28 years old meth head. Is the healthy brain of an 18 year old the same as that of a 28 year old? Was this experiment controlled for any other potential substances or toxins that this 18 year old may have ingested but not disclosed in the trial?

Not trying to give Donald a hard time, but I was just at the doctor and disclosed that I am a marijuana user and he looked me in the eye and said "did you know that the damage from one joint is the same as smoking 5 packs of cigarettes?".

My response: Show me the data.

Sure it is likely that inhaling smoke is bad for you, perhaps marijana is also bad for you. But before you go throwing around bogus statistics we need to see legitimate research done with controlled trials. Then we can have this talk.

Just because heavy drug users in some scans have holes in their brains in no way means that drugs cause that damage. correlation does not prove causation

Anyone who knows anything about THC knows that it's harmless to humans. Cannabinoids regulate many bodily processes, and our own endocannabinoid system makes marijuana-like chemicals. And now with the use of vaporizers out there, marijuana has virtually no carcinogenic potential. So, I don't buy the brain scan theory.

Great article from a University of Colorado researcher:

I think this is the article those brain scans are being pulled from. Interesting stuff.

Yeah...the "Amen" clinic. Here are a group of people who believe that some Jewish kid was born from a virgin, whose side-kick was a ghost, and who died and came back from the dead. Very credible source.

I'm pretty sure it's the physician's last name, not a religious affiliation.

Amen is the name of the doctor. Maybe Marijuana use leads to a lack of reading skills.

Oops...you're right. I guess it is all those brain cells I lost.

Although this "Amen" is not without his critics either and has been accused of quackery as well.

Exactly what I was thinking.

Hmm... apparently Amen worked for the DEA in 1987, he may be a tad on the socially conditioned side of perspective as opposed to the detached observational perspective side of things. He is also listed as the CEO and Scientist of his company which tells me he has financial goals which may be guiding his controls on research.

Didn't know Utah was one of the Stricter states on the 420 issue. May have something to do with the fact that the 80 interstate is so easily accessible from Northern Cali. At least that's what all the law enforcement folks that I know here say. They regularly have record breaking busts in this area due to routine highway stops. They also say that it should be legal but will probably take about 15 years for a majority to detach enough to allow it to happen.
