I'm starting my trip in Joshua Tree But plan to stop in St george and go bouldering for a few days in Jan at Moes valley assuming weather is good. On my way back home to Chicago I want to stop at another bouldering area, Would it make sense to hit up Ibex being that it appears I have to go north than back west to get to it, or should I skip Ibex and just head to Orangeville and check out Joes Valley? Also is camping free at Joes, i heard you can camp at Moes but not sure about Joes?
P.S this moes joes thing hopefuly isnt to confusing?

I would suggest the sandstone of Joe's Valley over the Ibex quartzite, only because I get enough quartzite living in Ogden. You can camp for free in Joe's Valley and you get what you pay for. Triassic is 20min from Joe's with plenty of camp spots, a lot fewer people, and highly concentrated boulders.

Yeah I second the Joes/Triassic option. There is free camping at both Joes and Triassic, but consider this: The camping options at Triassic are legion! Triassic is also more likely to be dry (but New Joes is usually good too.

If your looking for an amazing place to be in general I prefer Ibex over Joe's strictly based on the location. Ibex has a unique vibe to it that I haven't been able to find anywhere as it is just to desolate. That being said Joe's is another amazing place to climb as well, but it does seem a lot of traffic.

might want to consider access in Jan.too. alot of fun things at ibex means crossing the playa which is anywhere from impossible to a pain in the ass when it is wet. not everything is across the playa, but some classics are. access is mostly not a problem at Joe's and not very often at Triassic. camping is free at joe's too but its mostly roadside--a side road going to forest service land (in Jan this means maybe two trucks will drive by during the day; much more scenic camping at Tri.) have fun.

Temps at all three places will range from 0 degrees to 50 degrees, + or - 10 degrees throughout the entire month of January... give or take 20 degrees.

Expect 40's, but don't be surprised if it's sunny and 60 or a snowy 20. Keep an eye on the weather, plan well and you should find a sweet window of opportunity.
