We all know and fear those beloved 1/4"ers. With as much replacement that's gone on in the past few years (major props to Kevin), I wanted to ask the status on some of the other platte classics that may have or may not have gone modern yet. Looking to get out on friday but
was curious what to do, or what not to do. I've done a lot in the spires so I was thinking lost valley area. Any recomandations/ beta are appreciated.

Here's what I've been eyein
-Warpath on Wigwam
-El Supremo on Wigwam
-Shining Path on Sunshine Dome
???????

shock treatment ought to be nice and sunny this time of year.... in all seriousness/ maybe charlie don't surf and a few of the others on helen's dome. or maybe something on the castle?

I've always wanted to get on shock treatment, but don't know how bad the road is from the east. Too cold to wade the river comin from the west.

Hey Monty, I did the road from the east just fine in my Tacoma. A subaru will not make it.

Monty , I think Shock Treatment is actually a perfect route for you. Maybe not this time of year but ......... let me know if you'd like some beta...... After 19 years I am still not aware of a clean second ascent. Hmmmmmm.... ( 3/8 bolts too !)
Christopher , Nice pic.

warpath was in great shape bolt-wise a couple of years ago apart from maybe the top pitch which is shared with the crack route to the right - still a 1/4" I recall. The route is unbeilievably good.
El Supremo was similarly in great shape appart from the top pitch (that was added later?) which looks serious with the old 1/4" and run-out too. Im not sure if that pitch sees much action like the original. You can just scramble up and left to the descent without doing this pitch.
I believe Kevin fixed up The Shining Path recently also

Sweet! Thanks guys. It all sounds soo good. I'm thinking big rock is out. Thinkin Wigwam area is the winner. Thanks for the beta.

one thing about wigwam is that it is more west-ish facing and might not get sun until a bit later. of the routes that you are eyeing, shining path would probably be my choice.

(when i read your first post earlier, i thought the routes you listed were routes that you had already done. sweet reading comprehension skills huh?).

Mmmmmmm, Warpath is deliciously spicy. I climbed Tee Pee Tower Crack right after Warpath for a glorious day of Wigwam climbing. Wigwam is one of my favorite Splatte destinations. As long as you're up there, might as well knock out Ramblin' Rose. It's really good, too.

All ready did rambling rose a few years back, really nice route. What about the sun is it more of a south eastern aspect?

slim · · Unknown Hometown · Joined Dec 2004 · Points: 1,093

i would say the sun faces slightly more south, but would probably be in the shadow of wigwam for a lot of the day (due to the sun being so low in the sky right now).

also, the base of sunshine dome would be pretty shade free. wigwam has quite a few trees at the bottom.

Sweet thanks for the info slim. Sunshine dome sounds rad.

Better Lock Next Time is super sweet and around the corner.

Watch that last pitch of Better Locks in the winter . . . it gets wet and icy as the left facing dihedral only gets late day sun. Found that out last February, I think.

Was down in the wigwam area today. Would of been a great day if it wasn't for the artic blasts! Just about got blown off of warpath. Very little snow down there at all, don't think ice would be a problem on better lock as of now.

what was the sun condition like? were you in the shade at all? nothing like a little slab climbing with erratic arctic blasts eh!

Monty · · Golden, CO · Joined Mar 2006 · Points: 3,535

Everything was in the sun. Would of been a great day if it wasn't for the wind.

well, that goes to show how much i know about wigwam during the winter (very little apparently). i'll have to make a mental note.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
