Camping options around Albuquerque?

I'm heading out to Albuquerque for the weekend and I'm looking for cheap(er) camping options than the KOA. Is there BLM land nearby that's good for camping? Are there other campsites I'm missing in my googling?

Thanks ahead of time for whatever information you can share.
Happy climbing!

Yes there is BLM and forest service all around abq. I don't know a spot for certain but there is a lot of it nearby. Probably out by Jemez. Or if you want to drive about an hour south, there is the box west of socorro with camping and climbing. You probably have to drive a little bit to get to it. Also, the national forest is over in tijeras, east of town. Its near the big block climbing area. There is camping there. Or go up into the Sandias and find a forest service campground. Bring warm duds. Good Luck.

There is no legal camping in the Sandias that I know of. There may be a campground up hwy 337 from Tijeras past big block. on a side street to the left but I'm not sure. You can obviously camp at Socorro 1:15 from ABQ or Ponderosa 1 hour from ABQ.

There is a bit of NF around ABQ but not a lot of roads with places to pull out. I'm not sure where there is BLM land around. There is also a lot of Reservation land around ABQ so you need to be careful.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
