Sorry this took so long to post. The BLM is beginning the process of writing a Wilderness Management Plan for Arrow Canyon Wilderness. The meetings tonight in Las Vegas, Tue night in Moapa, and Wed night in Mesquite are to solicit public comments as to issues that may/should be addressed. The issues that many of you will find interesting will be (the ubiquitous) fixed anchors, especially replacement, fixed draws, etc. Those who cannot attend may send their written comments to Mark Tanaka-Sanders, Wilderness Planner, at
Ivwilderness@nv.blm.gov by the closing date of this comment period on November 19th, 2010.

thanks alot for this post, i climb there a bit every winter.. write those emails if you can guys, even if you haven't been there. you'll be happy if you ever make it: great 10's, 11's, 12's, and harder on bootiful limestone...

jon

remember it only took 19 emails to get the park closing time decision reversed!

Being the initial set of public meetings, this round was to get public opinions on what issues should be addressed in the WMP. Issues that will (most likely) be addressed will be parking, trailhead facilities (that means toilets, which means $ to clean, which comes from someone... - instead, how about a WAG bag dispenser with a donation box?), climbing management (including new routing and maintenance of existing fixed hardware), trail issues, cultural resource issues (protecting the petroglyphs/pictographs, for example). Please send in your comments. Please make them short, to the point, and constructive. If you haven't been yet, check it out. It's an amazing place. Follow the directions on the site page - The access passes right next to a private home. Please be respectful, drive slow, and stay on the road.

hey all, i've heard via the rumor mill that there is no good reason for us to write these emails as the plan is already in place. that is simply not true! it would take twice the time needed to READ this email to WRITE an original to mr. Tanaka-Sanders... please don't take the "someone else will write it" attitude... take a few minutes and secure yet another awesome climbing area surrounding the greater las vegas metropolis...

word,

jon

does anyone have the proper email address? this address has come back undeliverable for me a few times...

Interesting. That is the address listed on the Notice of Proposed Action. It has been working for several people, i've heard. Feel free to call the office 702.515.5000 and talk to Mark for clarification. If anything else comes up, I'll post it.

No worries, Jon. Just tryin' to keep the masses informed and involved in our little democratic process, such as it is. From my inspection, 90% of the routes were amazingly well camo'd. Unlike most recent additions to the First Pullout...
