Thoughts?

Anyone actually used it?

Interesting idea. So I imagine this would be used on a fixed draw, which means when you lower off at the end of the previous burn, you need to unclip your rope and open the gate? Seems like kindof a hassle, but if you are a serious clip bumbler or you had one or two super desperate clips, I could see its advantages.

huh. someone is trying to build a better mousetrap... what will they think of next. as if wire gates arent easy enough to clip?

looks useful for a stick clip draw i suppose.

could be useful for all those people I see trying to make the most awkward looking clips in the world, like off the back of their hand.

Definitely couldn't carry a rack of them up a climb hoping to make your clipping easier.

I predict this will be short lived.

This looks like a classic example of trying to build a better mousetrap.

That has got to be one of the stupidest f#$cking things I have ever seen. Sheesh.

from the ad:

You're at your limit, pumped, panicked, and staring down the barrel of 20 feet of slack. Shacking, you go to clip a draw that's just within reach, but the rope gets stuck between the gate and biner nose, popping out and setting the biner swinging.

Shacking???

you'd think they would edit their ad copy.

Oh, its a typo! I thought that's what the kids were calling it these days.

About the only real use I see is using this on a stick clip.

I could see someone setting these up for a project to save them effort.
Not me though, I'm much too lazy to project anything.

Whatever. Some people will buy them and like them. Some will not. Arguing about their relative stupidity is pretty... well, you know.

wondered the same thing. maybe similar to clucking?

I'm a climber who shacks, not a shacker who climbs.

Mike Pharris · · Longmont, CO · Joined May 2007 · Points: 125

so if your climbing with a girl and your both shacking, does that mean your shacking up with her?

I find it hard to believe that they won't accidently 'trigger closed when in use. A pair of them on a long draw could be handy for that really iffy clip where the effort to clip a closed gate or swinging carabiner is just enough to knock you off your precious stance. I'll go for a pair, just to try them out I guess.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
