Looking to get a superlight rain-shell this season and I'm eyeing up the Marmot Mica Jacket (which I've heard good things about) - the new OR Helium Jacket (haven't heard a thing) - and the MH Quark Jacket (heard good things, but's a little heavier). All jackets way about the same, the Mountain Hardwear Quark being the heaviest at 10 ounces. The Helium can stuff into it's own pocket and can be clipped to your harness, so that's cool. None of the jackets seem to have a good helmet compatible hood. Any experiance with these jackets? THoughts?

I have a Marmot Mica. Great as a super light shell for long trail runs, backpacking, etc. Definitely will keep you dry. Probably wouldn't suggest it as anything other than an emergency rain-shell for climbing though, as doubt it will take much abuse. Trade-off between weight and durability.

Kevin, i love the Helium by Outdoor Research. It is super light & compressible (didn't even notice it clipped to my harness) & i just tested it out big time in Red Rocks...high wind, rain & hail. i stayed dry -storm flew through fast so i wasn't in bad conditions for long...but i loved the jacket. I think my favorite features (in addition to the weather protection function): great fit/allows me to move (even the hood over my helmet felt right) & a front zip pocket at chest level so i can get at "stuff" like my route description, gu or chap stick....even when my jacket is tucked under my harness. Oh sizing...in case you are ordering online...seemed true. the medium i ordered was the perfect fit. hope this helps.

I also have the Marmot Mica. I think its a great lightweight rainshell that excels for summer alpine routes especially in RMNP. It also fits into its pocket and can be clipped to your harness. The shell utilizes some softshell technology as it is made from a stretchy fabric. Especially nice for climbing in. Im about 6 feet tall and wear the Large. You may want to check out the Super Mica Jacket for pretty much the same coat just burlier.

I've been looking at the Rab shells, any retailer in the Front range carry them? Was thinking about the Latok Alpine but seems on line retailers are out of the medium.

I have had the Marmot Mica jacket for just over a year. I take this thing on pretty much every multi-pitch route I do. It is light and it fits into its own pocket. You can make it smaller and protect the shell if you wrap it in climbing tape. Plus you can use it as a carrier for emergency food and a headlamp. I really recommend this jacket.

I have a large red RAB Momentum jacket that is brand new. Still has the tags on it. I need to sell and would be willing to let it go for $120.00 plus shipping... Dallen

I typically wear a Medium, I'm 5'10", about 165lbs, and only need enough room under the shell for a light thermal and power-stretch/fleece layer. Are the Rab shells sized a little smaller than say a Marmot or TNF shell?

Checked out some reviews and it seems like a medium is what I'm looking for. ProLite does have a sale on the Momentum but the Latok is out of stock. Somebody should jump on Sunny-D's offer, looks like a really good deal.

I'll take the momentum if it is still on sale.
