Looking to do a trip to the Boone, NC (actually heading to Todd) area in late March. Wondering if someone local could let me in on the typical conditions in the area during that time of year.
Love to hit up the bouldering on the Blue Ridge Park way but read a report that the road may not even be open by then.
The next best alternative (though completely different) would be Stone Mountain?
Any local beta would be welcome. Also- is there a definitive guide for the NC/Boone area?
Thanks-

Most likely Boone will be good then. It is possible that there could be snow or tons of rain, though, but that's just the High Country. If it's warm(er) and been nice for a few weeks prior, you must go to Grandmother. If the weather is harsh, your best bet is Lost Cove. Blowing Rock is usually good that time of year too. In my opinion, the next best alternatives if the weather is cold/harsh (for bouldering) would be Rumbling Bald, the 2mile boulders at Moore's Wall, and Asheboro (in no particular order). To climb at Asheboro, though, you must be a Carolina Climber's Coalition (CCC) member (it's worth it and $$ goes to a good cause). There is no guidebook for the bouldering in NC. There is some vague info on rockclimbing.com or you could hit up the CCC website to try and link-up with someone familiar with the areas. Good luck and have fun.

Mike Grimm has recently published The High Country Cragger, which covers climbing around Boone. I haven't seen it, but I've heard good things about it, and it sounds like just what you're looking for.
You mentioned Stone Mountain; March is prime climbing time there if you feel like a change from the Boone scene.
