Greg is giving a presentation about his amazing work with the Central Asia institute on the 16th at the Mackie auditorium. My wife and I are currently hosting a 15 year old exchange student from Pakistan. We were on an ice climbing vacation and did not learn about his show until it was too late to get tickets. I am putting out a general request for at least one ticket so our student can see this talk. If anyone has an extra ticket or knows someone who has an extra ticket could you please contact me through this site? As much as my wife and I would love to see Greg speak I really would much prefer to have our student see this show so I am only asking for a single ticket. We think it is incredibly important that he sees that the real heart of the American people is compassionate. That delivering books is more valuable than dropping bombs. If you can help it would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou! Phil

Mortenson is also giving several other presentations in Colorado in January, plus a representative from CAI is coming to Montrose. More info here:

I could probably help for the Evergreen show on the 17th, Phil; but I realize that's probably out of the way.

In any respect, anyone want to go on the 17th? We could hit the One World & then goto the show?

7:30p @ Evergreen HS Auditorium.

Nevermind - tix are sold out :(

Thanx Mark. I would have gladly gone to Evergreen. We have family in C Springs so I am willing to try for that venue.
Mortenson is an amazing man!

Thanx to everyone who read this post and thought about it. Fortunately a friend of mine has found two tickets to the Boulder show. I so highly recommend reading Three cups of Tea. It may not be Pulitzer writing but it is Nobel Peace Prize work. Mortenson is my Hero!

I finally got around to reading Three Cups of Tea and posted a review on my blog. Here is the first paragraph:

In 1993, Greg Mortenson came close to reaching the highest point on K2, but opted instead to take the moral high ground, participating in a harrowing, life-threatening rescue of a fellow climber that dashed his own chances of summitting. Unbeknownst to Mortenson, this selfless event would serve as a microcosm for his future. Instead of continuing his promising career as a mountain climber, he would sacrifice his own self-interest by helping the less-fortunate.

unfortunately the Nobel peace prize is now meaningless otherwise Mortenson would be a prime candidate.

Mortenson has a new book out (as of Dec. 1, 2009). I'm expecting my copy in the mail either today or tomorrow.

Here's a link to "Stones into Schools" on Amazon:

amazon.com/gp/product/06700…;tag=stointsch-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=0670021156

The above link has a code embedded in it to credit Central Asia Institute (Mortenson's 501c3 non-profit organization) for any purchase you make at Amazon within 24 hours of clicking the link -- they receive a small commission on the sale. So, buying his book -- or any other purchase from Amazon -- can help to build schools in the remote mountain regions of Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Support Greg and the CAI. He is a climber, a veteran and a genuine humanitarian and is someone whose work is really having a positive effect. Give him money, even if you have to drink Keystone instead of PBR for a week.

Three Cups of Tea is a superb read and Mortenson's efforts may ultimately may do more to educate Westerners about the actual world that exists outside our narrow parameters. Even if you don't make the presentation, be sure to read this book!

For those that do not know, when he talked at CSU the Bohemian foundation offered a 500k matching grant to those that donated to CAI. I do not know what the status of that is but they are asking for pennies, hence the pennies for peace campaign. As a result of this the students at Shepardson Elementary are fundraising as well and could use your beer money, spare change, or money that you were going to use to buy that cousin who you never see a gift...Think about it, wouldn't it be better to help kids in Afghanistan or Pakistan through a NON_Governmental agency instead of downing Natty until your ears popped?? If you need info hit me up.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
