Climbing areas all over the country are at risk because of every day internet chatting assholes. just because his accomplishments are big enough to hit press and your tix barely drip onto an internet forum doesnt make you any better. He is no different then the idiots that try to squeeze routes during raptor closures ect ect. at some point pushing legal limits resides in all of us as well as mental and physical. nature of the beast. quit bitching about he friggen arch and come up with a real friggen argument. not one MoFO here has mentioned any other "adventurers" to vote for or things they have done. positive or negative. Most not be that cool i guess. Seems to be a trend of a DP shit list. Wonder what all those other folks have done wrong? How bout any of you shit tards? Yall got a clean record? Gimme a break...

Didn't he spit in the face of most every climber and adventurer when he stepped over the known line on Delicate Arch?

GET OVER IT ALREADY, it's been years people, stop hating for gosh sakes and just ignore him if you don't like him, really it's not that hard
If you call someone who free-soloed the EIGER a poser, what the hell does that make you? Just imagine, for a split second, what that feat means; strip away all the publicity, the hype and the hate, and see the facts - see what a man can physically and mentally accomplish, and perhaps in the split second you too can see that that is incredible

Ya what she sez, some of you young bucks might forget that Warren Harding was banned on the Nose for tourist season, etc and so on (told he must finish or abandon). Dano was ordered to get his ropes or have them cut down, etc and so on. But I think we can see who's all "black and white" pretty clear here. It wasn't spit in my face, nor crossing lines...it was climbing (durrrh!)

Dean passed us on a one day ascent of a wall in Yose. He was friendly and obviously overly capable. So mebbe I'm biased...but...

Consider the 2nd ascent of Southern Belle and chit.

C'mon man, surfer chick and everyone else on that list (and in this forum for that matter-no disrespect Caylor!) can't (won't(?)) send that....that's what I call "the mental adventure"...yer gonna die...

I'm voting for him on Southern Belle alone...I cowered walking by the base of that thing...Bueller....Buelller?

My vote is still Extreme Kellie, this chick is hardcore, Has Dean rappelled 28 stories off the side of a Denver Skyscraper, Hell No, Dean Can't touch Kellie

I know Dean and Dean wouldn't really want that. He doesn't climb for that reason.

Wow, I didn't think this would create three pages of contoversy. Then again many climbers throughout history who have pushed climbing and mountaineering to new levels have been criticized by fellow climbers for their techniques and actions. The fact of the matter is without these people, the sport wouldn't be where it is today. Climbers like DP among others have unlocked a new realm of climbing (maybe not on the Delicate Arch which kinda sucks) for future generations. IMO of course!

Are there other climbers that deserve the same or more recodnition? Absolutely. I still think it's cool for someone in our sport to be recodnized among some pretty awesome people in the outdoor/adventure world.

1 Umm, Read your posts sounds like your a internet contributing asshole too, just like all of us.

2 Actually there have been quite a bit of contributions, Im still nominating Extreme Kellie, and

John Maguire mentioned that he made the jump from leading 5.7 to 5.8

3 And finally, I am a shit tard by nature, and my shit stinks, My record sucks thats why I didnt nominate myself or tell you about all my accomplishments because they don't hold a candle to Extreme Kellie

Gilbert was amazing. I missed him by a year, though I did get to know his girlfriend fairly well the Fall after his death. I once took her up Dunn's Dihedral. She really latched on to me for some reason that year. I can't think of her name.

As for my vote, the guy that made "The Cove." But I'm a sucker for dolphins.

Dude, Dean has made poor choices (as we all have). I was critical of his DA stunt. But, he is a super bad ass and should get recognition for his world class skillz. not voting for any of them personally. they get paid to o that stuff that's enough.

Go climbing or something. The amount of wasted energy put into this thread (already hashed out in countless other forums, across the country) is staggering.

relax.

I would vote for the teacher. What she is doing is way gnarlier than any "athlete." Waves, rock, and gravity are dangerous, but not as unpredictable and cruel as religious fanatics with kalashnikovs.

edit: I met potter once in the Valley and he seemed like a truly nice guy, kinda undeserving of the vitriol being spewed here...

That's pretty goldarned good, but seriously. The Arch thing was very stupid. I'm sure he's paid for that.

Simply put. I wish I had the balls, the middle mind, to solo and jump. It's perfect and it's that's simple for me. Yep.

1) Dean is not pushing the limits of Climbing, he's pushing the limits of Falling!
2) I am not jealous of anything he does in the same vein that I am not jealous of any tard chatch bag.
3) Pitiful ambassador, pompous putz, deluded dalai potter? Really, adventurer of the year? Puh-leeze!
4) Instead of putting down each other or criticizing what other people write, lets focus our attention at hand: trashing Miss Potter.

I think the winner was already chosen last week.
