Austin during the first week in April

My girlfriend and I live in Vegas, and are considering relocating. We've thought about Austin, but neither of us have ever visited. We are both teachers, and want to take a trip there over our spring break. We'd like to climb a little, but also just take in the city and the surroundings. Anyone got a spare bedroom? We'd be willing to swap a stay in Austin for your trip to Red Rocks! Can't have any cats or smoking due to allergies... Any ideas for activities while we're there? Areas to avoid? Does Austin feel as big as it looks? Any info you'd like to post would be great!

Was born and raised in Austin. It kicks so much ass it's not even funny. The best food, the best music at very reasonable prices and VERY friendly people. Texans also know how to friggin drive, unlike my current State. You should try erockonline.com ,it is the Central Texas climber website/chat/info/forum/thing. Get ready for a Waaaaay more laid back scene than Vegas, though I do love Vegas, I could never live there. Have fun kids.......

Austin has some awesome limestone formations, for great bouldering and sport climbing in the late fall to early spring months as well as some excellent deep water climbing in the summers! Not calling it a world class destination, but something to check out if you are in the area.

Cheers!

Friendly people and plenty of blue skies supporting outdoor activity in Austin. It is an island floating in a sea of Texas and the only place I would want to live in my former home state. Check it out if you get the chance; it's worthy.

Truly,
Keith
