Helping the New Guy

looking to park my camper trailer and live cheap from april thru june til i find a house. will pay rent. just rolled into town today. also looking to climb. often. anyone interested?

Yea, lots of public land that is legal to bivy on. BLM apparently decided a few years ago that the Black Velvet doesn't count so I would avoid camping right by there.

As long as you are not trashing the place i.e. vegetation, landscape or dumping human waste on the ground. You are allowed to camp on any Public Land (BLM) for up to three months in any one location. If anybody tells you to move, you just have to stand up to them. If they know that you know the law, they will back down. Camping is consider "casual use" defined as minimal surface disturbance.

You are not required to get any permits for "casual use"

So unless you are doing something really wrong, you won't have any problems.

Usually people that tell you otherwise, were probably doing something they shouldn't have been.

Actually, the limit for dispersed camping on BLM land is 14 days:

I'm not sure how rules are made or where the information can be found(other than word of mouth or posted signs) on areas like Black Velvet Canyon that have no camping signs posted.

I found this info regarding primitive camping on Doug's BLM link:

Within the Las Vegas Valley, camping is not allowed. The boundaries are:
• North – Apex on I-15 or Lee Canyon on US 95
• South – Sloan Exit on I-15 or mile marker 22 on State Route 604
• East – National Park Service’s Lake Mead National Recreation Area
• West - U.S. Forest Service’s Spring Mountains National Recreation Area

Lovell Canyon is always a good bet for free camping, but it looks like the original poster is actually inquiring about space at someone's house to park a trailer. I don't think I can help you, but good luck.

I'm learning some stuff and that's good. anyway, john is right. i need a few basics like electric, h2o, and bathroom access. love the idea of full fledged dirt bag again for a bit but, eventually i need to find a job and what not. trying to meet in the middle i guess. anyway, i appreciate the input so far. i'm sure something will turn up.

Uh, there are countless places to bivy in the area as long as you don't require the Official Campground Experience.

check out the casinos, they might have good rates. depending on location most rv/5th wheel sites are gonna run $500 to $750.

Yeah, I was just checking out the KOA down by Circus Circus. Looks like that might run a grand a month...

If you need hook-ups, there are some decent RV Parks behind Sams Town,
(Boulder Hwy/ Desert Inn) you might avoid Circus Circus its a pretty
bad neighborhood.

As far as camping at Red Rocks, no need here, I have 2000 sq ft house
20 minutes away! Ha Ha

that sounds pretty swank. how many square feet is yer backyard?;)

anyhow, i figured some more specific details might be in order.
here's the specs:

the camper is a tag along (trailer). it is quite small, 14' long, 7' wide, 7.5' tall. i just pulled it across the country with my jeep cherokee. it's old school but looks nice still.

as far hookups go, i need to plug in one regular extension cord. it would be nice to have h2o access to fill jugs.

the main thing i need is bathroom/shower access. i'm willing to pay up to $200 per month and i only need the space thru june. so $600 in someone's pocket for essentially renting out a room. but you still have the room to rent since i'll be staying outside.

keep the ideas coming, i appreciate it.
