Trying to compile a Bouldering "to-do" list, looking for CLASSIC moderates from Colorado Springs to Fort Fun. I've done a lot around FOCO and Loveland, and realy enjoy the "high-ball" problems (30-60ft). Please include why you like said problem, thanks. Tom A couple of my fav.'s. 1; Kahuna Roof 2; Sloper Chief....

30-60' boulder problems? A bit more than 60', but at that height the result of a fall would be the same: I like the 1st and 3rd flatirons as good moderates (lots of others too). Let me give you a more serious answer so my post isn't read as a flame: in the difficulty realm of the problems you mentioned, if you like em high (at least by my humble standards), check out Germ Free Adolescence in Eldorado. I like it cuz it's a few good cranks to a lip, then a "fun" mantle/lip turn crux. It's invigoratingly high, but with crash pads (multiple) it seems somewhat sane (but I didn't fall turning the lip, and I only did it once). Pretty rock in a pretty setting. Despite my taking you to task for suggesting that 60' is a boulder problem (it ain't), I'm interested in other people's responses too.

It's only about 17 or so feet high, but the north arete of death and wrinkle face on mickey's fin on Mt. Sanitas are some of my all time favorites. They're somewhere between V3 and V5 depending on exactly how you do them. Mickey's fin (unless I have the name completely confused here) is a spectacular little piece of rock just north off the steep trail leading from the Hawthorn trail head up to the Sanitas Valley Trail. You can approach from Hawthorn, or go the long way from the normal trail head on Mapleton. From the benches and overlook at the top of the valley where the trail heads west and up to the summit, look down and left, you can't miss the rock. The views and setting are killer, the rock is beautiful, super solid fountain sandstone, and the moves are classic. Easy access, and not a lot of traffic make this one of my favorite places to boulder. Everyone goes to the main areas on Sanitas and mostly ignore all the killer stuff on the hogback, weird in my opinion, but just fine at the same time.

Pig Dog V6 - East Draw (Near Eldo) This problem has a bit of everything. It's steep, powerful, jugs, pinches, two finger pocket, crimp, slopey side pull compression move, and your feet are always trying to swing you out to pull you off the wall. The top out is no gimey either. It is a gem among all the crappy rock up on East Draw. Rarely crowded and a great Winter spot for those that want something a little different than Morrison on a cold day.

Clear Creek Canyon - Mavericks V5 Millenium Boulder - Ghost Dance V6 Castlewood Canyon - Punani V7 Castlewood Canyon - Cave Direct V6 Castlewood Canyon - Fountain Lip Traverse V3 Three Sisters - Thievery V6 I think all of these are on this site. Great problems. Ghost Dance is my favorite on the list. Three from Castlewood because I've spent the most time there.

The Toad wrote: But for me anything under the 55-60' mark is a boulder problem, just me. If you go with V6 ='s .12A, then you could boulder 90% of the actual routes at Castlewood (rating the only limit-not height), which to me is a roped bouldering area anyway. But you would be skipping on average 5-7 bolts, which seems a lot like a solo. To me, moderate bouldering stops around V2, but that's just semantics. I think the separation of bouldering v. soloing has to be the injury/death factor if you fall, and I'm pretty sure cratering from 60' would have some sort of an effect on your over-all well being. Add the Buddha Cave, Cobble San Lucas and Shred of Dignity Traverse from CWC to your list.
