Yes, great news! Now its time for everyone to get behind it and support it. If anyone is looking for back issues I know where you can get them for face value or slighly more, including number 0. Email me if you would like details. Cheers John

I have issues of "Rock and Ice" and "Climbing" magazines. I find there is not enough in them that I am interested in to make me want a subscription to either. I have never read the Alpinist. What is it that sets this magazine apart?

Rick -- it's the essence, personal experience articles, history, documentary, pictures, cartoons -- climbs & situations that actually matter (eh, Mike?). Once you get into it, you'll be an addict too.

The photography is incredible and the majority of the articles are more like feature length trip reports written by climbers that do some writing, as opposed to writers that do some climbing.

CLIMBING and ROCK & ICE are great, but comparing them to the ALPINIST is like comparing a cup of Folgers to a triple espresso. No other magazine expresses climbing's lineage as well, and it refuses to water it down for the mainstream.

I am more interested in climbing narrative and experiences than who climbed what 5.14d ( which I will never be able to climb). I enjoy reading trip reports on this site and summitposts so this might be for me. So if this is a quarterly at $30/yr introductory price that is $7.50 an issue?

The website tends to tout the recent big ticks, but this content was not at all the main focus of the mag. It is expensive, but once i decided to check it out on a 'splurge' i found that i enjoyed it quite a lot. The content always set it apart from the others by a long shot.

$13 is not an outrageous price. What does an issue Climbing magazine cost? $4.00 or something? I would say that one Aplinist (quarterly) has more information and more QUALITY pictures that 3 "Climbing" which would cost about $12. $13 is well worth it and I will gladly keep paying it to get an awesome publication that is not full of soulless ads and spray about the latest V47 flash....although there was that one issue with a section on "buildering." I'll just pretend I never saw that.

It is expensive for a magazine but it's really worth it for the quality. Initially, I didn't buy it because of the price (and because I didn't want to feel cheated reading about these awesome climbs around that globe that, at this point in my life, I'll never do). Now, I've worked through both of those issues and I'm much happier for it. The quality of the writing and photography are really without peer and you'll find yourself re-reading articles again and again. Once you adjust your mindset not to see it as just a magazine, but more of an oversized book, both the unit and subscription price will seem far more reasonable. And yeah! Since I only got one issue after finally subscribing, I look forward to receiving a few more quarterly gifts in the mail.
