Did anyone catch the date on the cover of True magazine? Definitely something that would be fun to collect - I can put it next to my copy of the National Geographic. |

"Why not Angels wings or something like that? Lumpy? Lumpy ridge? I could never get over it." - Layton Kor Well, that was not a direct quote, my memory is not that good, but that was the essence. |

There were so, so, so many great parts to Layton Kor's awesome show. Like "if there ever was a Colorado climber who needed no introduction, it is Layton Kor"; "this all started with an idea to charge $2 for a slide show at Neptune's"; how touched he was that AAC brought his family out for this event; that story about Charlie Roskoz filling in on the 2nd ascent of the Diamond, getting caught for ascending without a permit, smiling after paying a $10-15 ticket for an illegal ascent of the Diamond, and then getting a 10 minute standing ovation by his classroom; the amazing ascent of Finger of Fate; the marmot story and the scolding he got from the ranger...and then going to try to save the marmot from the attacking marten; the stories about getting caught ascending the desert towers and the "bleached bones" stories; his saving the dog stranded on the ledge in the Black Canyon; his deep sadness of losing some of his climbing partners; the opportunity to participate in the multi-minute standing ovations for him; and so many more. His deep humility after it all was astounding. I hope that he truly felt how much we all appreciated him for sharing parts of his wonderful life of adventure. Thank you, Layton Kor!!! |

Bet he's feelin' the love now! I've been to several slide shows where the speakers are so programmed they sound like corporate motivational speakers, which is fine but Layton was different. I think most people not only felt they were in the presence of greatness but that they had been invited into his home space. The way he would linger on a shot, remembering his people and the experience then turning to smile at the audience after a wry joke. You really got a sense of who he is. |

Sorry I missed the show, did Layton mention anything about Crack of Fear, Chiefshead, his scariest climb, a close call ... |

We're all indebted to Phil Powers and the staff at The American Alpine Club for making the Kor show a reality. And many thanks to Crusher and Clyde for all your work in support of Layton. |

Phil, Thanks so much for posting your images of the evening with Layton Kor. I have had several conversations with friends that attended and every one was stoked. Every sport has it's iconic legendary hero's and Layton is one of climbings greats.Mountain Project is my link to a world that I immersed myself in for so many years. Please keep the images of the events coming. |

Lee Smith wrote:I think I am going to work on a personal "Kor Classic Tick List." Well...it'll be a long one, so many of his routes are classics. I recommend starting with Kor's Flake up at Lumpy. It's 5.7 and no matter how good you are, trust me, you'll get worked. |

There are rumors over on supertopo that Kor is going to be doing a show of some what at Red Rocks or close by during Thanksgiving weekend. |
