Lots of other stuff to do in Costa Rica, really. Leave the rope and harnesses at home. Maybe bring shoes for bouldering? |

I was there for a month in March and I looked hard for climbing throughout the Nicoya peninsula (basically all of northwestern Costa Rica). I saw the occasional boulder and cliff on the beach, but everything I touched was total garbage and I pulled off huge chunks with little effort. I'm very easy to please when it comes to bouldering and, believe me, there was nothing worthwhile. I did see some buried 30' limestone cliffs near the La Amistad bridge, but I'm certain there was no established climbing. I suppose I would check it out if I lived down there, but it's definitely on private property, would involve major jungle bushwacking, and likely not good anyway. On a previous trip I was further down south, Jaco to Dominical, and I didn't see anything. Of the thousands of things to do in Costa Rica, climbing is not one of them. |

yep, ZERO climbing...I spent two months there and traveled all over the country, brought my climbing shoes just in case, and only got to use them on a local's climbing wall...great place tho, and really fun surfing, pura vida! |

Beware of anywhere in Costa Rica you may have heard of - it'll be like being in the 52nd state of the USA. There are great places in the country to go, but you have to go out of your way to find them. Everywhere else in central america is better in my opinion(and i've been everywhere after driving to panama and back a few months ago). |
