I can meet you at the Eldo gas station at 5pm. I don't have a parks pass, if you don't either, I'll cover us. I've never climbed the route but am comfortable leading Eldo 5.8 and willing to lead all pitches or swing leads. I'm not the fastest leader and have never climbed this classic so if I'm leading, we'll probably only complete Lower Ruper. If you know the route and wanna cruise, I'm totally down. I've got a complete and safe, but inconsistent rack (mix of brands and styles), 60m rope and headlamp. I'd like to move fast, efficient, and safely. WOULD THE RAPPELS BE A TERRIBLE IDEA IN THE DARK, W/ ONLY HEADLAMPS? WHAT IS THE BEST DARK DESCENT ROUTE? Thanks, Ryan 720-839-7928

If you KNOW the rappels, shouldn't be a problem in the dark, but have no doubts. Also, you'll get more partners if you post in the "Partners" section...

Hopefully somebody wants to get out and climb or else I'll be bumping this more tomorrow! This isn't a 100% partner post either. I do not know the rappels. I;ve gotten off Yellow Spur twice but I don't think we took the path of least resistence and wouldn't want to repeat in the dark. I would appreciate any more detailed night time descent info.

If you haven't ever used the raps before and are trying to find them for the first time in the dark, you're asking for trouble....IMO

^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ Good Beta!! Andy AND Mike!! I've never had to down climb with a 60 (just used this decent for the Yellow spur this weekend) but, yes it's a full 60m rappel so knot your ropes. The rest of the beta is spot-on. For added speed (and fun), you "can" link P 1,2&3 with a 60m rope IF you don't place too much gear. Don't know if Id recommend this if you haven't climbed Ruper before. And if you're REALLY comfy you can link the upper pitches with about 50ft of simul climbing. That'll get you up Ruper and down before dark. Have fun!! Wish I could join you.

Sorry, I need to learn to read!! You said you haven't done this route so, diregard my previous post about linking pitches!! On another note. . .you have some funny ass pictures on your profile!! If I can make it out tonight (I'd have to bail on a class) I'll do Ruper with you but it's not definite. If not we should get out and climb some time!!

bump for rich to ditch class! you should see the photos that dont make the internet! thanks for the descent info. and mike, i'm not looking for trouble. maybe inviting a "learning experience" and welcoming an "adventure" and possibly working thru an "epic" but i don't think trouble is the right word. im stuck in an office til 5, 5 days a week. sometimes an adventure is exactly what i need to stay sane.

Tuleja emailed me about heading up on Tues. I'm sure we could meet up to climb, or at the least grab some brews at Southern Sun. I have the whole day free, so I can go whenever. Let me know.
