Hey, Jeeheon . . .

You should check out a few bouldering spots around Boulder to get some experience outside. Others could tell you the best places to go - there's a ton within walking distance of town.

hey jeeheon, you should check out mt sanitas there is a bunch of good easy to moderate boulders there. plus the approach is only about 5 minutes.good luck and have fun.

Ensign Jeeheon. This is a logical site, I'm sure you will find an away mission to join at some point. Master the skill of belaying, at a gym for example... this usually requires more than 3 weeks.

totalclimbing.com/page.php?…

check out the multipitch class. its is... Fascinating, and will deepen ur 'itch' (and marketability for finding climbing partners)

if you still haven't found anyone local, look me up sometime after the 4th.

live long and prosper.

=)

Jeeheon and I went out today for a few hours.

He was competent at belaying (every time I peeked down to check) and fed an appropriate amount of slack. He also lowered me nice and slow.

He did not drop any of the draws while cleaning.

He kept good form while being lowered, and did not skitter around or keep a death grip on the rope.

He trusts the rope enough to be anchored in with just a clove and eight, and to lean back on it.

He also learned how to rappel today, and though he has a bit to learn, understands the basics. He also was in control while rappelling, and took his time.

He is receptive to teaching, asks a lot of poignant questions, and is learning the appropriate calls.

And an overall good beginner!

Easy now big fella, I think NSFOD was joking...

Happy Friday!

"What's with the negativity?"

Are you new to this site? Negativity is the standard here dude, unfortunately.

Mmm, think Deaun has it right; it was a joke. But anyway, tooTALL, you're cool. Your post could go on the Climbers are Cool (I mean "kuhl"--ugh) or the Great Climbing Story threads. People were offering sorta helpful tips, and you just grabbed a noob and hit the rock. Then you spread the word that Jeeheon's safe and OK. Tip of the hat, tooTALL. You're good people.

Definately. It is really great when people are nice to each other on this site (or in general). It just doesn't happen often enough.

Yeah, Fridays are smart-ass days for me. Sometimes it gets misinterpreted.

This was a joke.

Glad he found someone to give him a start. That's great!

sorry i took it out of context, it's hard to detect sarcasm on the net. then again, i never really check out the forums, so that's probably why i responded the way i did

If you never tire of sarcasm and friend thrashing checkin at Redriver climbing.com An excellent site for a number of reasons but at times disgusting reparte.

There is a group I went with last week that was very friendly to beginners. Send me a PM and I'll give you the details. They meet once a week to head out in Boulder Canyon. I'll be taking two other guys just starting pretty soon if you want to join in.

Bouldering for outdoor experience? Master belaying at a gym? Sorry guys, I'm sure you mean well but, icch. Thank you TooTall for keeping alive the spirit of climbing; you are indeed good people!

I'll never forget when I learned to climb, so many eons ago. Scotty took me out to the Garden, quickly showed me how to belay, then took the sharp end up the rock. I can't count how many times since I have done the same. And if you and a regular partner take someone new, you don't even have to do that.

You've gotten lots of advise over the past weeks, eh?
I was a guide and teacher for 15 years from days when you passed on what you learned to others hungering for experience. Drop me a line and well see if it's a fit. 303-883-8196.
Cheers,
Patrick

once i have equipment and become proficient ill definitely be taking up some beginners on their first runs and pass down what i know

Bouldering for outdoor experience? ... Sorry guys, I'm sure you mean well but, icch.

Just advice from someone who does not live in Boulder to someone who is starting out. I responded to Jeeheon because I saw no one had yet. . . I hope it was read as a friendly overture/advice. I'll stand by bouldering as a great way to spend a day on the rock, and also a great way to meet potential partners. I, too, love the Garden, BTW.

AC - You're right, bouldering is a good way to get outdoors and meet other climbers. I didn't mean anything personal, was just bummed that for the most part people weren't chiming in to offer to climb with Jeeheon. I probably over-reacted, sorry.

Man, I miss the Garden. And the 15 minute drive to get there, not to mention the 0 approach. ;-)

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
