A 56-year-old man was transported by medical helicopter to a hospital at about 4:30 p.m. Friday after falling during a rock climb near Snow Mountain in Big Cottonwood Canyon.
Salt Lake County Sheriff Lt. Jason Johnson said the man was climbing with two other people on a rock face known as "Glass Ocean." Johnson said the man's companions told authorities that there was a "miscommunication" during the ascent of the wall, which requires technical climbing gear, and the man fell 30 to 50 feet before he swung into the rock face on an attached safety line.

The man suffered a fractured arm and head injuries in the incident and was transferred via helicopter to Intermountain Healthcare Hospital in serious condition.

The two climbers with the man were not hurt in the accident.
