I dunno, man. I've found some pretty incredible things at the dump. Still, though... seems suspect.

Sure, it could be stolen, or the person might be legit. Why would someone keep such an odd mix of stuff together in one spot, easy to be stolen. These things could easily been cleaned out of a demo house by some folks that didn't know what the odd looking contraptions were used for. Im not trying to vouch for this person, just saying don't point such a serious finger on only a hunch...thats all.

haven't you ever seen those news stories where things happen like the robber drops their wallet at the scene..? One i saw last year was a teenager who robbed a girl scout of her cookie sales money. How'd they catch her? She had bought cookies just before the shakedown and put her name, address and phone number on the sales sheet....

Anyway - it's possible the person who dumped at the dump dumped legitimately. Perhaps the gear came to be in his possession legitimately, like moving into an apartment that still had crap in it or something, and the person who left it there wasn't legit.... It can't hurt to post the link, especially with the photos. If someone recognized the gear - a connection could be made.

There was a story on Supertopo the other day where a guy had his gear stolen several years ago. Then he came across a rack for sale, really cheap. And he jumped right on it, only to later realize there was probably a reason it was so cheap. So, he posted at the local crags, and it came about that the gear HAD been stolen, a year ago. and the original owner got his gear back in that way.

most criminals are criminals exactly because they AREN'T worth their salt. Most are just plain dumb. For example:

Guy gets drunk and decides to rob kwik-e-mart cause it seems a brilliant idea. He runs inside with a ski mask on and a pellet gun, slips flys through the air with the gun sliding across the store. He freaks and bolts only to return moments later to retrieve his pellet gun, grab as much beer and as many cigarettes as he can carry. All this while the clerk just sorta watches the events unfold. He is caught a half hour later half naked and passed out on his apartment floor across the street. The cops just followed the trail of beer cans and cigarette packs to the apartment door that is half ajar with stupid criminal inside. True story of an idiot I knew. Ahh, juvies... Gotta love 'em.

Gear found at the dump could have been mixed with any number of toxics, including those that eat through webbing and ropes. Beware!!!

I too have seen some pretty amazing stuff at the dump, usually stuff from gutted rentals and dorms, where rich kids leave their sheit. Snowboards, boots, chainsaws, you name it.

since were all assuming how about these possibilities.

Cleaned out from apt. rented by climber who wound up on the wrong side of the law and is now housed in the steel bar hotel. landlord tosses it.

hopefully not, but maybe the owner was killed and someone tossed the stuff whether it was family, friend, or landlord.

some bumbler did in fact steal it and came up with a super lame story as in a sport like climbing you could come up with all sorts of crazy, permanent injury stories that would leave you in need to sell your gear.

Or.. it's gear that belongs to the sellers dad and the son/daughter has stolen it to fund some sort of addiction???? Who knows...bottom line Tevis Blom is right, used can can be sketchy...used gear found at the dump is SUPER SKETCHY
