THIEF ALERT: If you are headed to Paradise Forks, I'd recommend NOT camping with the ATV crowd down FS Road 14. Not just cuz of the noise, dust, etc., but also, some buttknuckle made off with our cooler and our camping equipment this past weekend (Memorial Day 2007)while we were at the crag. So, instead of nursing my ego over a cool one and a sirloin after a stellar day in the canyon, we spent the evening in Williams filling out a report with a Coconino County sheriffs deputy. Luckily, the thieves musta thought the two crash pads under the cooler were dog beds. Oh, and it didn't dampen our spirits enough to keep us from climbing there the next day. That rock would make Frederich Mohs proud. . . .
(This is not meant to equate ATVers and thievery in any way.)
(But I'm just saying, them folks weren't lookin out for their neighbors, neither.)
(And that FS road was trashed by Saturday afternoon from all of the donut whippin'. Oh well, what would I do with all of that tax money, anyways? Might as well give it to the guvment, so they can fix forest roads on a weekly basis cuz ATVin' must be in the Constitution somewhere, right?)
VM, I am truly sorry for your loss. Thieving bastards took your green labels & angus beef?!??!?
Look on the bright side, you didn't have to spend the next two days canceling your credit cards or making trips to the DMV for a replacement drivers license.
Theft is becoming a pretty big problem, I read these posts all the time and it sucks for the victims for sure. Last week before heading off to the crags we packed everything up but the chairs and sun shower and I still wondered if we'd come back to a undisturbed camp. Pathetic state of affairs for sure!
