With all the hot weather we've been having, I was wondering what shape 'The Hourglass' (Ptarmigan Glacier Cirque) is in...

Any input would be most appreciated.

Hi Friso,

I haven't seen The Hourglass up close lately but I was on Sharkstooth on Saturday and got a good view of the Taylor glacier. It looked like a decently fun climb for someone who is itching for a snow route. There were even semi-fresh ski tracks. Then on the drive out I saw a lot of snow in the Ptarmigan Cirque (I think). I'd say it's worth going up there.

Chris, thanks for the info.

We went up yesterday. Still had a path of snow and ice from the bottom to 30 ft from the top. HWhat a great outing! Main reason I wouldn't do it again this late is that the rock anchors (mostly getting to them) was pretty dicy. Lots of loose missiles, and moving onto the 'rocky' areas inevitably released a shower of golf - bowlingball sized debris held together by mud.

Good times, in all.
