music video in eldo

I went to Eldo today (July 26) and was informed by the booth person that the north face of the Bastille was closed to climbing because a music video was to be filmed that afternoon. Half of the parking lot was blocked off to make room for the lighting crew trucks and a caravan of RVs was making its way up the road. Does the park receive a donation for this type of activity? Should the regular park users feel honored to be inconvenienced in this manner? Am I just cranky? What the heck? |

With respect to what public lands are used for, is a greater good being served by an event? Can't we step aside for a day to serve this good? This doesn't directly address a music video at Eldo. I didn't realize there was still a market for music vidoes (I can't even remember the last time I saw one). |

Ah, well. I say next time go as the undercover brothers and sneak the gear in. |

Yeah, my partner and I left as the conga line for the video started to show up en masse. The guy guarding the lot said the name of the band is Lone Star, a country western group. One of the band members is a climber and they had hired an actress who is also a climber to be his partner for the video. |

How corny. There is something that always bothers me about making climbing about image and not recognizing why people climb. I suppose there is always some sort of image involved but it never seems to be conveyed correctly and I'm sure a country music video won't do it much justice. |

Country doesn't seem like country anymore, more like southern pop. Anyhow, if you want to see the first pitch of the Bastille in action go to cmt.com/artists/az/lonestar… and click on the video for the song "mountains." |
