This permit covers Non-Motorized walk-in access to the Coos Bay Millicoma Tree Farm, including the Callahans climbing area west of Roseburg, Oregon.
When parking on Touchstone Rd, do not block the school bus turnaround and be respectful of all neighbors. As private timberland, climber compliance with the permit system is critical for Access Fund and SW Oregon Climbers Coalition to explore future improved access with Weyerhaeuser, such as a recreational lease.
Description
Directly across from the Gym Wall at the bottom of West Gully sits the Prayer Wall, named for the Tibetan prayer flags (and potentially the prayers you might say while climbing) hung on the small madrone tree at its base. This tree provides shade for the belay pad as well as an anchor for lead rope soloing. Please try your best not to disturb it.
Three established routes offer a variety of moves in relatively short pitches. Three sets of anchors, one with chains for rappelling, are currently at the top. Top rope access is fairly easy and can be approached by scrambling from the top of West Gully. Be mindful of your steps.
The sun aspect of the wall is a double-edged sword that lends itself to quick drying for most of the season but also sweltering sessions.
Big thanks to Tobiah for his vision and for doing the brunt of the cleaning for Atonement and the Madrone Crack
Getting There
Follow the same approach directions to the West Gully and Gym Wall. Approach options from the top of Scorption Buttress:
-Head right, scramble to the top anchors of the Prayer Wall and rappel in
-Follow rough switchbacks down the gully to the bottom of the Gym Wall (or rap in from the top of the Gym Wall)
-Head left and hike down the trail(pink flagging) that leads to the East Ridge and Herpatarium which eventually takes you to the bottom of the Gym Wall
