Description
Beautiful seaside bolted multipitch routes from 5.10- to 5.11+ on bomber, uber-steep rock for the grade with no crowds and no approach. What's not to love?
Not much, but this area comes with two major caveats:
1. Rap in, climb out tactics and somewhat spacious protection mean you must be confident in your abilities to get back up, lest you need a rescue.
2. This area, a costal sandstone cliff with most-of-the-day shade, is subject to extremely wet/slimy rock late in the day in periods of high humidity (or after rain), especially Intrepida Sirena which follows a system of juggy cracks. Start early or go elsewhere if humidity is high and/or the wind is not blowing from the North. Check the deepest holds on the top pitches as you rap before getting in over your head.
The top 3 geotagged climbing posts on insta for this cliff both involve rescues, so plan wisely.
Getting There
Drive through L'Escala to the backroad connecting L'Escala to L'Estartit. After passing the campground on the right, continue for 2-3km to a fork in the road on the left with several options. Take the leftmost option which is the least demanding/rocky (doable in most rental cars). You'll pass a few couple intersections but stay straight and you'll gain the perfectly-linear road that dead ends at Punta Ventosa parking. From here, walk north/left 100' to the end of the military installation. Look for a sign noting the natural features of the area just before a rocky patch at the cliffs edge.
